RED '**---->my 02 build thread

Been lurking, gathering data

Have wanted a tahoe for years; cue: kids,college and now #&*% (FBHO)

I bought her, she is sexy "arrest me" red and 13 years old......now....now

She has 128K on her chassis and shows a few GM flakes of her clear.....wow...

And talk about stacked!!!

She has 89 options (according to a vin search) and they all.....work!!......

I have folder full of quick mods I have saved up.....will do write ups and a build thread


Also she is 4wd, 3.73's and G80 which is nice and tight

First mod was the high pass wiring mod for stereo, not the neatest one

hardest part was "breaking loose" the amp from mount to move it for install of cable, it was "glued" with 2 sided tape???must of been a rattle at some point

Amazing difference in sound quality

so now the factory sub really sounded like shit!!

so....tear apart back of truck

and since I didnt have any silicone....I used Plumbers putty

installed

sounded good except for the rattle...who was the genius that designed this

I rolled up a rag and stuffed it behind the box and then grabbed a 1/2 in ling screw with washer.....no more rattle

next mod?

4 high mod
simple 5 min job

pop out light and splice into yellow wire and ground it out

walla'

So a nice 3hr date with my **' turned out great with all the pre planning done...next?

Speakers, since two sound bad, now that they have bass to them

first step, remove dash bezel

then 7mm(socket size) bolts x 4

well, she decided to bite as I pulled on her gage cluster

I know "dont be a pansy" I am still on blood thinners so I had to stop the bleeding....3 bandaids later

pop off back black plastic

remove 6 larger light bulbs

grab a hand full of sockets and LED's

and replace them

remember to not over "tighten/turn them" because you will not make electrical contact

see the contacts?

see the contact strips on the board?

and notice the "groove" in the sockets, which is too long for our dashes?

so turn them enough to stay in the hole and have contact with board

repeat 6 times

put back together, before final assy make sure polarity is correct, you may have to spin bulb sockets 180*....i will find out tonite

next door lights, small screwdriver on the "RED" end will pop them out

the 5 LED bulbs dont fit into the sockets...so....

break out your step drill and open them up

open up to 1/2 inch

install bulb and repeat around the truck

next?

fire up grill, open a beer and precook meat for dinner

Never heard of the wire high pass mod? - (never had stock radio either though)

time for updates, just got back from the winery

dash...yup...red not blue...I have 100 more leds for everything else

so when we leave winery...we have nothing but dirt until we get home (5miles of road actually)

well......mama said "why does it smell like paint?"

ugh..ugh..oops...she rolled her eyes....

grills look alot better in person??? no streaks etc...weird

she actually said "you know your 45 and not a kid....

oh and door lights

Great build thread! Nice to see someone else paint the speaker grilles too, are you planning on painting more of the interior red or just the grilles?

need to pack bus, so projects may be delayed for a couple weeks

I have an 02 as well! I love the red.

Check your front diff fluid and magnet when you get a chance. I get the feeling that the front diffs eat bearings more often than not. I sure found a nasty surprise!!

need a small inverter to power my car-puter I am going to install, so I found time to turn this 15 yr old one into a "new" one

take apart and clean, sandblast outside

paint and bake

then I made new stickers for it

also started on my next project, I modified cup holder with some led's so I can see to put drink in

drilled 2 holes

inserted led's with resisters and leads

drop of super glue

and here we go

still need to hook up

A carputer plus something like Arduino controlling relays and whatnot could be a ton of fun.

been busy with so many other things, did get to color match a small amp for subs

got drvside led swap done, I alos added an "aux power out" for future lighting

and some ambiance

not too bright, just nice glow (will see in the morning drive to work

next to finish up other doors and add "puddle leds " into bottoms of door panels

I go through alot, since I'm on blood thinners

pulled out an old skool band pass box I had circa 1989

and cleaned it up, added led's and new subs and just had fun with it,

it may be too loud for my old ears now

I had some copper tubing laying around and used it as wire chases

and finally some sandblasting, black paint and some time with plotter a "brick wall with graffiti" (plastic was scratched up, so easy mod to hide finish, still glossy and clean on bottom side) I added red leds under the glass edges

once again wife asked how old I was

so this morning's job was to get rid of using the tape deck adapter and the static and noise from that

tin foil to protect board from oopsseess

done...next

I dint have anymore leds so...candy **** red nail polish

it worked 30 years ago...we will see tonite
