Just got a 2005 Yukon XL and they really seem to have missed a storage opportunity with the huge empty structures they've surrounded the wheel wells with. Has anybody added doors to theirs to stow stuff in? Or is there actually less space than I'm imagining?

Jumper cables, tow rope, toolbox, hitch when it's not in use, etc nothing major. Just stuff I want to have with me but not rolling around in back.

Last car was a Grand Cherokee which stored it's spare inside under the floor and there was space for all that stuff in there as well.

Those will all fit in with your jack kit. I have jumper cables in mine, right now, but haven't dropped the hitch in yet.

Actually, I had to take my cables out, as my wife couldn't reach them...

We also have a canvas-like thing that hangs from the third row head rests. It's the right size for jumper cables, an umbrella, and misc., other stuff. The trailer hitch could likely go there too. Here's a link to what I actually have:

That's where I house my 2 amps for my sound system.
