Rear Heater Core

Dose anyone know the size of this fitting going to the rear heater core? I want to cut this one off at the crimp. Then splice in a new 5/8 aftermarket connector. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can carefully cut it at the crimp, or replace it. Dorman has a 3/4 inch quick connect elbow that goes to 5/8 hose barb. Drop your spare tire and look up. You'll see the two half inch aluminum pipes, the hoses are cripped to the end of those pipes. It's easier to use a small pipe cutter and cut the pipes, then use a half inch compression fitting adapted to a hose barb.
Here's the parts I used, along with 5/8 silicone heater hose.

Not very user friendly to get in there and carefully cut the crimp off, which is why I went with relocating the connection for easy access later on. You can see where the original crimps were

Everything's available on Amazon. I used the half inch compression to 8AN male fitting. Then an 8AN female to a 5/8 hose barb. I prefer the oetiker crimp connections, but of course you can use your choice of hose clamps.

Do you know how many feet of heater hose is needed?

What style of crimper are you using for the oetiker crimps?

The inexpensive ones that come with a set of crimp rings work just fine. Just as well as my $40 crimper for PEX tubing clamps. These days you can buy a set of the crimp rings that come with a crimp tool for the price of 10 screw clamps.

And by the way, don't go cheap on the heater hose. Silicone is very heat resistant, which is why I went that way. You've got the exhaust nearby, plus the right rear tire throwing all kinds of crap up.... And if you lose one of those hoses on the highway, you will lose all your coolant rather quick.

Once you use this style, you'll ditch all the screw clamps and spring clamps. This simply don't leak, and never need retightening. Stainless steel so no rusting.
