Rear end died

I pulled the cover off and it looks like one of the carrier bolts either broke or just came out and the gears are chewed up and the actual differential is broke too. It was involved in a wreck in like 2014 and the axle was replaced so who knows how many miles are actually on the axle it could be more than the 274,000 on the car.

That blows. I just went through this last winter. Took forever to get it fixed at the time due to finding parts. Hopefully things will go better for you. Mine had it's blown original replaced with a junk yard unit around 180K and that lost some spider gears on me at 335K. Had it rebuilt and now am at 341K.

Alstate has lifetime warranty on any replaced parts I just don't remember if the facility I used, chevy dealership, was one of there preferred shops for the warranty they will call me Tuesday.

I have called them and am waiting on a call back, I am sure they will try to weasel out of this somehow.

Whenever there is a repair done after an accident, Allstate provides a lifetime warranty on all parts replaced, including used parts. In this case, as I understood it the rear axle was replaced with a used one as part of an accident repair.

They are already claiming I chose the shop... I said I don't remember. I said why would I choose a chevy dealer 20 minutes away when there is one much closer. I am sure they won't pay for it. The only shop I remember they first told me to use didn't have any ability to change the axle so it couldn't even go there.

If you still have the paperwork from the shop and the claim, there should be a piece denoting that dealer as being one of their approved shops, along with a copy of the parts and repair guarantee. I have that paperwork for a repair I had done by a GMC dealer body shop, and paid for by State Farm, who offers a similar guarantee.

If you don't have a copy of the repair then take a shot and call the shop that did it. They may have documentation.

This is good to know. I been with SF 15-20 years and had no clue.

If you still have the paperwork from the shop and the claim, there should be a piece denoting that dealer as being one of their approved shops, along with a copy of the parts and repair guarantee. I have that paperwork for a repair I had done by a GMC dealer body shop, and paid for by State Farm, who offers a similar guarantee.

Well Alstate it comes to find out only warranties the body shop part of repairs. The do not warranty any mechanical repairs which is flat out BS since the shop was not allowed to buy a new axle they had to get a used one from a junk yard. If you aren't going to warranty then they should use new OEM or new aftermarket.

Yes I never pay anyone to do a repair I can do, I rebuilt the Tranny in this one already. Found a rebuilt axle for $675 shipped so will order tomorrow.
