Hey folks, haven't posted in a while... Good to be home! (Rant ahead)

Anyway, I came back to my wife complaining that the truck has been shuttering and vibrating up and down the road for the past 5 months--I thought it may've been the tires, or a bent wheel until I drove it myself. Turned out to be a (self-diagnosed) transmission/torque converter/AFM issue.

So, I take it to my local GMC dealership who proceeds to tells me it's due to my aftermarket exhaust and oversized wheels. I would've gave it some thought, albeit brief, if he would've just said wheels, but exhaust...... really, dude? I can't believe GM isn't fully owning up to this failed design! It's quite frustrating and embarrassing.

Regardless of GM's failure--I have a go between until I rid myself of any further GM patronage; the Range RA003. Now my Denali feels like a 6.2L and the shifts are as smooth as butter. All for just $199.00--that's all it costs GM.

Plugs into ODB2 port and disables AFM. Why not spend just a pinch more and get a tune to tune it out, and get additional power & response?

Couldn't imagine the line I'd get from the service dept had I done a full tune... still noticing the shutter btw.

The cool thing about the Range is you just unplug it when you go to the dealer. When the warranty is up it's tuner time.

Having a tune doesn't put a scarlet letter on your truck - Id say 9 out of 10 dealers could give a shit about it and do the repair work anyways. If lets say your power window stops working - they aren't NOT going to fix it because you tuned it. And chances of an injector or ECM or something else going out is so slim, I wouldn't even worry about it.

If I'm not mistaken.....a tune on a 15 or 16 is going to require an Autocal so you will actually be able to download the stock tune back in before you go back to the dealer if you are worried about it.

Thread resurrection...got my range afm yesterday. After the second errand run with it plugged in the engine light came on. Unplugged and drove a few more errands and engine light went off...

Hmmmm

I'm not convinced yet on the benefits of the device but will give it a good highway run tonight and see.

The engine light thing is troubling...

(2016 Denali btw)

Forgive my stupidity...What do you mean by a tune? I was actually looking at the Range Tech AFM Disabler for my 16 Tahoe..

Thanks

A tune changes a bunch of characteristics like throttle response, gearing etc which is great. The arguable downside is that it could cause a warranty issue so you have to remember to pull and re flash to original tune before a dealer visit. Range simply disables AFM.
