On my 26 suburban on the lower right corner there is a display of truck with a bunch of red x’s. The x’s represent passengers and the x’s turn to green check marks .

On my 25 Tahoe it has the same display but there are no red x’s for the driver and front passenger and thus don’t turn into green check marks. The rest of the passengers turn into green check marks.

The Tahoe is the top. The suburban is bottom two. Green check mark indicates seatbelt is buckled.

Anybody know how to turn feature on or is a sensor not working?

Anybody with a 25 Tahoe that can confirm green check mark for driver and front passenger?

My wife bought a new 2025 Equinox RS AWD in March 2025 (build date was late February 2025). After purchase, the vehicle underwent two separate over-the-air updates.

After the second update, the rear seatbelt icon appeared on the dash screen after the vehicle’s engine is started (3 red X’s for the three rear seat unoccupied passenger positions). After several minutes of operation, the icon disappears until the next vehicle start cycle. There is no red X’s for the two front seat positions.

I am not aware how to turn the feature on or off, and I know it is an Equinox - but since it was a 2025 model and the feature recently appeared, I thought this information would help you.

It was on the 25 Tahoe loaner my dealer gave me. I didn’t dig into since I’m the only driver.

It looks to me like there is some kind of sensor in the front seats that detect your presence. If no one sits there there is a red X The X shows up if someone is sitting and the green checkmark comes after the seat belt is clicked.

Red is for seats without a seatbelt fastened. My 2025 Z71 Tahoe has it.

As others have said the front seats stay greyed out when buckled with driver/passenger or no front passenger onboard and the rear displays a green check mark when occupants are buckled up but displays a red X whenever they’re not occupied or buckled up.
