removed mine when i realized it was never shutting off. 97 tho
My 92 suburban has 2 engine compartment lights: one normal hood light and the other a switched light on a retractable reel. I always thought that extendable reel light was a great option and made much more sense than the traditional hood light, though it would have been better if it had a good magnet on the bottom.

My '01 has a hood light on drivers side. The square box that houses the light also has a weight or ball bearing that slides/rolls back and forth to make the contact to turn it off/on when the hood is lifted/lowered

My 2001 also has an under-hood light that sometimes sticks in the On position. I wired a pushbutton switch to make sure it turns off when I close the hood.

Looked in the junkyard for the reel type but somebody got em all. I ended using led strips with a tilt switch. Works perfect. I just pull the fuze if I dont want it on

The slider/switch in mine was sticking at one point and I opened up that plastic box and cleaned the slider and the area it slid on. That was a few years ago and it's been fine since.

lol these are funny.....
does it have voltage with the key on or off?
what is the ohm reading between the pins? key on/off
short the 2 pins together turn the key on and see if anything pops up on the cluster
my money is on deleted coolant reservoir level sensor, my 2005 does not have one

Based on the original photo, and the fact that mine doesn't have that extra connector, the surge tank would have to be on or near the firewall. My surge tank is probably 2 or 3 feet away from the firewall, up closer to the radiator.

I guess that it could, but my vehicle harness plugs right into the bottom of the surge tank (the sensor). Hard to believe that an extra connection would be added. The penny-pinchers would not be happy. Bet your surge tank has its own local connection.

when I changed the tank on the 05 the new tank had a sensor but there was no harness I thought maybe it had been cut off or something the same harness goes all the way up the front
