Hey Guys I was at an auction over the weekend and I picked up two brand new ZZ4 crate engines. They are the 355hp 400ftlb model. I would like to put my sitting my heads, intake, ect..... on them and dropping it into my Tahoe. My 64 cc vortec heads should lower the compression enough to run 87 and the vortec heads outflow the L98 heads. Both engines have the plastic front timing cover and crank sensor location like the vortec block. Of course I would need to have BB tune the computer. I think that my stock fuel system with the upgraded injection spider should be enough. For those of you in California, how big have you gone motor wise and still made it past smog inspection? What do you guys think? I got them both for the price of one new one. If for some reason I cant use one in the Tahoe, I have plenty of other projects. Just too good of a deal to pass up.

Retorq, I was thinking some port-polish on the heads and some new springs. Do you have anything else in mind. My main concern is getting it to pass smog. Any other California guys running a big cam and getting it to pass? If so, how big is it?

Well I'm kinda stuck here in California. Believe it or not, there are several counties in California that don't require smog inspection. Mine is not one of them. My trans is currently built fairly stout however I'm thinking that it wont last too long with the new power and all the towing I do. As soon as a NV4500 finds its way into my shop, the swap will begin. Here is a shot of the TWO ZZ4's and a pic of the Tahoe from an outing this weekend.

The truck is just a daily driver. I Cranked the front bars up to level it out about 150,000 mi ago and I have no plans of lifting or lowering. I am on the look out for a set of 18's off a 2007-2010 silverado but that's about it.
I bought both of the zz4's at an equipment auction in Vallejo, Ca. Two for the price of one.

Yup! Equipment auctions often have small estate items, tools and air compressors. I have purchased a couple muncie's for under a hundred before. Most people are at the auction for Bobcats, forklifts ect.

Try and Google "equipment auctions NY" or "construction auctions NY" you should be able to come up with something.
