Gonna go alittle custom, copying this guys setup.
He used duplicolor metalflake red, and black on some parts.

I know man! That guys truck is over at GMT400 trucks forum its thARF's truck. Its overall a REALLY sweet custom truck, 4L65E FLT / 6.0L LQ4 Whipple SC. Its full of goodies.

Any ideas for prepping the dashboard? What kind of sandpaper, or should I just wash it real good? I don't want to ruin the texture.

This is all I've got so far. I used White Krylon Plastic Paint as my primer, duplicolor metalflake red as my paint, and krylon clear coat.

I'm letting it dry, then I'm gonna cover the dash, and just paint the air vents in black.
I should be finished tonight with some pictures.

It came out looking a lot darker then I thought it would be, maybe it will get lighter. And it could be that I did it in the shade. It was 90 degrees outside today in florida so I didn't want to sweat to death.

Is there a way to take out the air vents?

Thanks man, its all done now. Just sitting out to dry. I'm gonna wait a couple weeks and see how it holds up. If it holds up, I'm gonna paint the rest of the dashboard in this color theme.

I wonder how washing it would work. You think a McGuires wipe would mess up the paint at all?

Here's what I've done as a test, the paint hadn't even dried for more then an hour. I took some 800 grit sandpaper, I know really fine. the red paint that I had sprayed on my air vents I was gonna redo them in black, which was stupid because they didn't come out to great. So i started rubbing and rubbing and rubbing and the paint just blemished but it never came off. So it seems to work good. Then I took some 200 grit and shit got ugly ha.

So all in all I think it should hold up for awhile. If it starts flaking and stuff I'm just gonna buy a new one because the plastic is 13 years old and it feels brittle.

I thought it would come out looking really ricer, but it actually looks pretty good.
It really makes the double din look a lot more in its place.

Thanks man. Yeah I'll see how well it holds up, I think I'm gonna go in with a paint brush and touch it up in a couple places.

Thanks man. Yeah I'm really busy right now though, the week after next the new tranny / floor shifters going in, and I have to remount the center console elsewhere and lengthen the wires. So I'll probably finish the dashboard paint wise but I'm gonna leave stuff alone till I can get everything situated where its gonna be, I did the HID lights today aswell. I need to remount my rear bench seat and get seat covers for that and the front seats. The spare tire holder is going back in then I'm gonna put some some polyvinyl in the cargo area. Then I'll be broke ha.

Looks good. Mine has been painted for month or 2 and holding up real well. Did you sand the dash and the primer?

Oh ok good. Nope and Nope haha. I put so much clear on it shouldn't matter. I really don't care right now it was sort of a rushed project one day when I was bored ha. I'll focus on my interior more when I'm done mechanically.
