How much are your body shops charging you per panel? I'm interested to compare what pricing others are getting versus the quotes I've been given.

It depends on a lot of things. How much prep is involved? Just sand and shoot or bondo and dent pullers?

Also which panel matters a lot. For example a bumper is easy to remove and paint, a front fender on the other hand is a pita.

Total cost for me to do this was about $975 (not including decals). Took me about 30 hours of work time. Highest quote I got to do the whole car was $8500 and the lowest was around $5500.

Again, it depends on the work to be done. Also can depend on area you are at. Here in Ohio should expect about $95 an hour plus materials used. Spraying black is much more cheaper than say red or silver.

YUP. I for what ever reason have always loved the 2nd gen firebirds. I have owned a bunch over the years. I too had another '80 TA with the non-turbo'd 301. It was my very first car I bought when in highschool. It was certainly a turd for sure but these days, there are plenty of guys getting decent performance out of those little motors. That PACE car after I played with just adjustments actually ran pretty well. Oh well, 'nuff hijacking here lol.

Too many factors. If its white, its easy to paint one panel. If its metallic / pearl, it must be blended to the next panel. Panels will need to be de-trimmed, prepped, etc. Send me your quote and I can tell you if its close. I do this crap every day.

Well to correct your statement a bit.....White is easy to spray if you are lazy on the prep because it will mask most of what was done wrong. White however is a PITA to match at times especially if you don't properly clean your equipment in between painting. A little contaminate can adversely change the hue of white.

YUP!!!! Back in highschool my dad had a nice white monte carlo SS that I decided to smoke the tires off when leaving school. A tire popped the bead and I put it in the ditch. Luckily it wasn't too bad but messed up a fender and it needed some paintwork. He decided to change it to pearl white. A friend that I knew was painting it and had some issues during the process. Mind you this was in the beginning of the base/clear days. I think that car basically got painted 2 complete times lol
