95 percent outside but in my first pic you see people climbing out of the Conrail engine. By the time I got to it it was closed off. Don’t know if you have to ask or if they have special tours or what.

Your so lucky man I was crying just holding onto the grab rails of this thing. She was so pretty. I wish I could ride in one or look in the cab or compartments.

Well I was 6 and 7 back then, I do remember some but not all. On the west coast of Florida is the Seminole Gulf Railway and they have day trips and dinners aboard the train as it moves up and down their line and we've done that over the years. There's a steam engine in operation somewhere in the Orlando area that does Civil War re-enactments, outlaws and indians also attack the train from horseback. Couple of years ago I took the family to visit The General in Kennesaw, Georgia. Still have not been down to the Gold Coast RR Museum or the local model rail club with their giant display just minutes away. Their hours are limited for visitors and I always forget.

I have taken my family to a transportation museum down by St. Louis a couple times. They have a number of locomotives and rolling stock. My two favorites are the UP Bigboy #4006 and the Burlington Zephyr.

They also have a nice section for cars, as well as planes and some boats.

Thats pretty cool. Looks nicer then the transportation museum we have here. I will have to tell my friends that moved up there to see how far away from them it is, their boys would love it.

Couple summers ago when UP was restoring one of their Big Boys, it came through town on its way to Memphis. Had to take the time out of my day to come check itout, man it was soooo cool!!

Thank you for sharing. If you ever have the chance, check out the henry ford museum. IDK shit about trains but they have several in there.

Was just there last year. If you saw outside on one end of the building was a very old and rare, one of if the the last trussle bridges that's still complete that was engineered by Brigadier Gen. Herman Haupt from the civil war he is my ancestor. He played a very critical role during the war.

The one on the side where you park right? Yeah I saw it. Had no idea if the history of it or what it was doing there or your ties to it. Very good stuff!

I just noticed looking at the pics I missed the isle where you can walk under the one steam engine to see the underside. I’d prefer to see a diesel’s undercarriage instead, but I would have loved to make that walk regardless. Another reason to go back I suppose.

Also in the same corner of the building where you mentioned that bridge in the grass they had some old steamers inside that had driveshafts and beveled gear drives. That was really friggin cool I had no idea they existed.

Thanks for posting pics guys. I’m going to use the “excuse” of taking my little boys so I can go see it myself! Maybe we’ll wait till it’s a bit warmer outside though.

The Strausburg railroad in across the street. You can get a combo ticket you can take a short ride behind a steamer. You can choose your car to ride in. Ww did a vip and you can order and be served drinks and snacks. Very cool

If you have the chance to visit Northern California, plan a day to visit the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, CA. You can DRIVE a 1500hp locomotive!
So much fun.
