I just got an '01 Yukon XL (love love love it) and had a question about oil filters. I always use synthetic on my vehicles and run it around 8000 miles, but I like to change the filter halfway through. My other vehicle is a Jeep with the 4.0 and the filter is on the side of the motor. I can change the filter without changing oil and lose only what drips from the filter, but didn't know if that was possible on the Yukon with the filter being under the motor. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

That is not going to work with any vehicle that has the oil filter on the bottom just as you thought. However, if you are dead set on doing this, then you could probably change it really quick and only lose about half your oil. But again, I don't think this makes much sense in this situation.

just a heads up on ur 01 kon... keep an eye on ur oil filter housing.. sometimes the gasket where the housing attaches to the block likes to leak... my mechanic said its a common thing... mines doin the lil drippy drippy story at the moment... but ya gmcjon is right.. u will lose oil but u can always do the filter relocation option in the future and put it exactly where u want it

These things are kinda hard to change compared some other vehicles. There's a cross member right below the filter, and it's tricky at first to not get too much oil on it when you take the filter off. I have found to unscrew the filter a little bit and the oil runs down the sides of it and actually drips right into the pan missing the crossmember by an inch. just fyi
