I always thought all GM Z71 trucks and SUV's were 4x4. Just saw a 2wd Z71 Tahoe online, think it was an 05. WTF kind of off road package is that?

Anyone know if that was just certain years they did that? When I was looking for my Z71 all the ones I checked out were 4x4.

U sure it was a real z71 not just the stickers? Its in the rpo codes but z71 is the offroad package so it should be 4x4

For NBS all 00-02 z71's are 4x4. In 03 they made a z71 2wd and 4x4 option. The emblem on the C Pillar actually has "4x4" on the bottom if its actually a 4x4.

I have a '05 2x4 Z71. I was very surprised when I first saw it. It is an appearance package, but it does have the skid plates for some reason...

Since Z71 came out it's largely been an appearance package with the skid plates, suspension and decals.

So is it just 03-06 that they did this or can I get a new Z71 Tahoe that's 2wd? Anyone know if they ever did this on their pickups?

Yep. You can get a 2wd unlimited 4 door Wrangler. At least you used to be able to.

The Z71 was ORIGINALLY a suspension, appearance option package. Later it became the 4x4 nameplate. And now is back to being what it was originally, a SUSPENSION, APPEARANCE OPTION PACKAGE.

Working in a parts store I have to explain this a few times a week.

I bet the majority of lifted or long travel 2 wheel drive trucks/suv's go off road and are used for what they were built for.

I bet less than half of lifted 4x4 trucks/suv's are ever even taken off road. Let alone see a dirt road. Most lifted trucks here are street queens, seriously

Yea that sucks. My old 2wd lifted dodge was no streetqueen lol. We used it for worl and went offroading whenever and never got stuck nor hydrolocked. Even towed bed full of roofing things and also the mobile homes that are meant for 1 ton trucks and it never gave up. 5.3 magnum takes so much abuse its not even funny
