2022 Yukon XL - 4WD - 3.0 - 96K miles

I am looking for some insight on this. I have intermittently noticed a "groaning" type noise, but only in very specific instances. The sound is similar to a tire rub on a fender liner, but that is not the issue here. IT only happens when the ambient temperature is low - i.e. less than 50F. The noise is made when I turn sharply at low speed - i.e. pulling into a parking space, navigating a parking lot, pulling away from a stop sign when turning... After driving a while, I can't duplicate it. This is likely due to all components and / or fluids being up to temperature.

Any thoughts on what this might be? I haven't tried to duplicate this in 4 WD, as I don't want to do sharp turns on pavement and don't have easy access to an alternative.

Does it happen when you turn in a specific direction, or both?

Does it happen when you are moving, parked, or both? I am curious if it happens when parked.

My mind thinks it would possibly be power steering pump related. Have you checked the fluid level recently?

Only audible / felt when turning at slow speeds. Turning the steering wheel at a stop (no forward motion of the vehicle) does not create this. I am pretty familiar with the power steering pump noises (I used to dive a Ford way back in the 90's :)), but I don't think that is what this is. All fluids are within operating range.

Hmm... sounds almost like you need to give it to me and I'll take it off your hands so you don't have to deal with it LOL

I'm unsure what it might be. Next step IMO would be to get a video of the sound and post it here. That will help a lot of folks here point you in the right direction.

I don't think that recording it is realistic - it is way to subtle of a noise and is almost "felt" as much as it is "heard".

I usually run in 2 High, but auto doesn’t affect this condition. It is exceptionally cold here this weekend and the condition is worse. I am confident that the TSB linked above is the issue.

Do this. Should fix the groaning. If it doesn't then the clutches are too far gone and need to have the diff replaced. I did the fluid procedure in the video on my 2021 Yukon when I purchased it with around 63,000 miles. Been quiet ever since.

I am still under warranty for about 4k more miles. Going to take it in on Thursday. I spoke with the Service advisor and she seemed pretty familiar with this problem, so I will let them deal with it.

It has taken the dealer 5 days of trying to duplicate the problem, but they finally were able to this morning. That is after I went to the dealership and showed them how to duplicate it last night. They were really proud of the time that they had invested in this - saying that they had driven 20 miles and didn't notice it. After explaining to them that it happens only in the first 100' or so. only when turning, and only when cold they were able to notice it. This is despite me providing them with a hard copy of the TSB left in the vehicle and explain it to them multiple times.

I am sure that they get a lot of customers that think they know what is wrong and they don't have alot of patience for it, but with the TSB and them saying they were very familiar with the problem it is pretty frustrating! Hopefully they get it fixed today.
