Newbee need some help!!

Hey guys so im new to this forum and to this lifting stuff.. I have an 06 z71 tahoe its really clean and i want to do a mild lift but i do not understand very well all these diffrent tire size.. I want to do a mild lift just thinking of keys and spacers.. What i need help in is in the tire sizes i want to go with either 18" or 20" prob by 9-10"wide i need. Help in figuring out what tires will be ok with maybe just keys and spacer in back very mild lift nothing krazy just a nice off roading look.. Please help!! Thanks guys..

i have a 2000 escalade with 305/70/16r toyo open country mud terrains. i ahve a 3 inch leveling kit with my bars slightly cranked, i dont rub at all and i love the look but im wanting bigger. you can probably fit 35's with bars cranked and a leveling kit, also you can put ford keys in. they will be stuffed and you might have to shave but you can do it.

no the 35's will not fit. i was wondering the samething but i meet a guy today and he has 35's with a 6" suspension lift. he said this is the only way it will fit. so i hope this helps you out.. ooh and the tire size he was running is 35x12.50x20

ok well i seen this one guy one here fit 35s just with keys and spacers but im not sure how much shaving did he had to do.. but yea the more opinions the better any info is welcomed..

get 20's that are skinny and that will help in stuffing the 35's go with a 3inch leveling kit and crank the bars and put ford keys in and i guarentee youll be able to fit

Funny, you should be asking for 'normal' tire size. 35/12.50R-20 IS the normal size. "P"sizes (metric) are the new sizes. So to speak. At least, for us old farts. Anyway, if I can help you compare...

Old School...
35= 35" tall tire
12.50= 12.5" tread width
r=radial
20=rim diameter at bead.

Metric conversion for comparison...
P= metric "Passenger vehicle"
265=265mm tread width
70=70% profile - this means the bead to the tread face is 70% of the tread width, or 185.5mm
17=17" rim (nice they left something so we could understand.)

So, to calculate the height of the tire...
[(185.5*2) / 25.4] + 17= 31.61
Stock P265/70R-17 are 31.61 inches tall and 10.43 inches wide.

Also, to convert your 35X12.50-20 to metric
35-20=15
15/2=7.50" profile or 190.5mm
12.5=317.5mm
190.5/317.5=.6 so your profile is 60% of the tread width
P317/60R-20 (317, 318, whatever it takes.)


As far as wheel size, the tire manufacturers have their own suggestions for rim width. And, of course, you also have to consider backspacing.

Ok like what size would you rrecomend?.. I was thinking like 315/60/20=35"s

thats exactly it.. you might need to shave a little but but your avoiding the body lifts (they redneck) and youll be sitting nicely ontop of them. i think it will look damn good

Daamn!!. thnks alot bro you really now your stuff when it comes down to this, and well yea im very new to all this off roading knowledge, haa so mind my dumb questions.. I kind of now have a better understanding.. What i need to actually find out now is if 35" are gonna be fine kust keys and spacers

35s can work on keys and spacers but needs to be a skinny tire on a positive offset wheel

ive had my 33 toyos for 10k and they have 90% tread i love then they pull really hard in the mud you slap that ***** into 4 low and it will get out of anything. another tire i wanna get is the mud grappler they sound real good on the road. and honestly if i where you just be safe and go with the leveling kit, and keys. i dont recodmend spacers for offroading cause they are a weakpoint and your tire can litterally snap off
