I’ve been a Ford guy all my life, but the GM SUV’s to me are far superior in styling, comfort, and overall value. I keep kicking the idea around of selling my F350 for a newer Yukon XL Denali. Having the big truck is cool but I don’t tow heavy and think it’s time for something different.

Insurance/public health is another beast entirely. Not to mention that when uninsured individuals who can’t pay get emergency care I’m forced to pay for it.

But let’s try to stay on task. What about consumer goods along the lines we’ve been talking about like cars, homes etc?

You asked for a purchase I was forced through legislation to purchase from select providers (crony capitists)- I gave you one.

Take your socialist ass to Venezuala or Cuba or some other utopia.

It just seems like there are so many undue burdens laid on us via heavy handed regulations that you’d be able to think of one that’s relevant to the discussion at hand.

Sorry you got so upset when you couldn’t. Please don’t take it out on me (I️ would be interested to hear what you believe makes me a socialist though...metered fact based discussion devoid of name calling?)

If insurance is the only off topic regulation you can think out of all of the horrible regulations out there then that’s cool. Should you be required to have car insurance?

For real, though, this all started (I think) with the idea that auto mfrs are forced to sacrifice optimum performance from their product to satisfy mandated environmental regulations, which we can all agree is the case.

It's not as much about being forced to buy things you don't want as much as not being allowed to buy the things you do want.

Right. And my question is, since most of these requirements were already being met prior to the govt stepping in (airbags as the core example as it adds so much weight and cost) it seems to me that consumers, not the govt, is forcing to hand of the carmakers. The govt codifies things that are already in play in the marketplace.

Regarding the toilet. Great example. Thinking about it now, who the hell would buy a toilet that takes 5 gallons to flush piss today (certainly not enough to drive a manufacturer to tool up a line to start building them again in any meaningful way). Beyond that, before Bush enacted that toilet regulations, commercial buildings were already, many times, installing lower flow toilets.

Great examples. Thanks for being willing to engage in non caustic dialogue.
