Greetings forum,

Just picked up my 1st suv, 2002 Yukon, and I freaking love it.

This obviously my 1st post on the forum. I'm looking for any advice/tips for an audio install, pertaining to installation.

Looking at new single din hu, any issues with replacing oem hu?

Also wondering if anyone knew the following:

-size of tweeters in front doors?
- good places to hide an amp? Looking at jl hd 900/5, very small
- sub replacement, looking at mtx thunderform and putting an idq v3 in there
-
I would love to hear any suggestions, thanks!

Welcome.
All depends on how much you have to spend. The JL box would be great, and I think there are Q-forms that will fit in place of the factory sub, but if you don't have deep pockets here is another option. Maybe not as much bumping as a standard 10" in the JL box, but you could do something like this, amp, sub, install, the whole shebang for less than just the JL box alone.
As for size of tweeters, don't know as it matters. When we installed mine, we just took a piece of metal strap, cut it to a width that would span the mounting holes, wrapped black electrical tape around it so it looks black not shiny through the grill (although you never really notice anyway) and mounted the tweet on the strap. The factory grill sits out far enough that clearance wasnt an issue. I have the Crossfire 6 1/2 componants in my front doors with Crossfire 6 1/2 coax's in the back doors.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Did you suggest the jl over the mtx because of known issues, or just a jl preference?

I like the idea having the sub up front, especially to blend with the mids! I was thinking the mtx would be cheaper, just because I have a sweet 10" to put in it.

This is going to be the first install I do on my own, so we will see how it goes.

If I put the amp under the pass seat, will the seats still fold down? I'm only looking at a thin amp.

Also, any tutorials for getting to the hu? I'm out of town on vacation, and my searches do not seem to be effective

Plenty of room, and there are seams in the carpet that let you run the wires out right at the amp for a real clean look. We did need to remove the bolts on the seat mount in order to snake the wires underneath but no big deal.

Drop the steering column, pull out the ashtray so you can get a grip under the dashboard trim bezel, and work your way around popping it off. My head unit was held in by clips/tabs on each side, we just reached back along each side, found the tabs, squoze them together, pulled the HU out. There may have been more to it, don't really remember, but that's the jist of it, really not hard at all.

Brain fart, I said here's another option and forgot to paste the link. Kinduv a moot point now as it doesn't sound like anything you would be interested in, but for what it's worth, here's what I was referring to

That sub enclosure you linked looks decent. Probably not going to go in that direction because worst case for me, I have a one cube sealed enclosure that I hand made of birtch I could throw back there with a 12.

Getting my hands dirty with glass is always a possibility too, but I did a custom corner enclosure with fiberglass (actually my friend did) in my Acura but I was thinking the mtx was a decent option for 250$.

Thanks for mentioning about the front bezel, I was think removing the ashtray bolt and pull, but wanted some verification.

Any issues with taking off doors?

Taking off the doors is simple. Just two screws and popping of the window control, door lock, handle cover and corner piece inside the mirror. there are videos that I watched to do it

once you take the two screws out and fiddle with any other points of contact, the door isn't held on with push tabs like some other vehicles, you lift it straight up. just take your time, if something doesn't budge, look around for where it might still be attached, all the power controls can be unplugged once you lift the door off.
