Your insurance doesn't have a $0 glass deductable? Should have gotton the license plate and called the company. Told them that the truck was passing at a high rate of speed and that they didn't have proper mud flaps to avoid throwing up stones.

it really would not have been so bad if winter wasnt coming (the temp change will defiantly shatter it)

Got a new one a year ago. Got nailed by a nasty rock that put a chip in the hood first then took out the windshield in dec. Finally in June I had time to get a new one. 2 weeks later got hit again and a 2 foot crack. Now I need another one.

Working in three different states, I'm always on the highway. I cracked my windshield a month ago and have progressive with the $100 deductible. Well worth it IMO. It killed me to stare at the crack which was directly in front of the driver side.

That ain't a crack, I had a crack(s) in my windshield for years, and the winters of east Idaho and Interior Alaska didn't do me any favors, but won't be as bad as you seem to imagine it will be. I took a hit from a passing car in Alaska back in 2009 near the base of the glass, just like yours, and in the ensuning years spread across the entire base of the glass. On a winter trip over the Alaskan Highway two years ago I took a rock that left concentric rings in the glass. Then a cold puddle of water on a sunny day last spring made it crack right up the middle. Then I decided to finally replace it. Now this new one has a crack, oh well, it'll stay there, it don't bother me. If I replaced my windshield every time it cracked, I'd go through at least two a year.

its funny you should say that because, honestly you dont even notice it, the rock hit it and it wasnt until i hit a bump that the crack happened. I really dont mind it but the only thing i worry about is driving home from SC in the winter and having the defroster/subzero temps cause it to shatter on me.

thanks man, its been my summer project and i just detailed it and had the tints put on, so right now its either grill guard or fix the glass and honestly i think the GG would look badass though im jealous of your snorkel......

I know people contribute temperatures with turning chips into cracks, and there is a correlation, but not on the way people think. I had a car a awhile back where I got a rock chip in the same place as the OP. When the temps got cold (Utah snow) it turned into a crack. When it was time for that annual inspection I replaced it. Not more than 2 weeks later I get hit again, and right near the same spot. Why did this one not crack like the first? Before replacing the first windshield I had installed a strut tower bar, thus stiffening body rigidity. The body was not allowed to flex as much as it originally had been.

Body flex is the main reason chips turn into cracks. And, temps directly affect body rigidity. The stiffer the body the lower the odds of the windshield cracking. Seeing as how all the dashs are cracking on the NNBS trucks, I believe the body structure of the NNBS is weak. So, it'll new very easy for the windshield to crack once it gets a chip on these trucks.
