So this is my first time posting here but I've read other threads before and they've helped me a lot. I'm putting in an all after market sound system in my 2002 Tahoe LT. I've already got a JVC arsenal head unit in and I've replaced my front and rear speakers with Polk audio db6501s. I hope to be installing my speaker amp tomorrow which is a hifonics Zeus 1000.4 What I want to know is the best way to bypass the factory amp. Right now my plan is to cut the wires on both sides of the amp and then run another wire splicing them together. I'm putting the amp under the drivers side back seat. I'll run my power cable from the battery through the firewall, under the carpet by the drivers seat and into the amp. I'll run my RCA remote wire and speaker wire from the amp right underneath the console. I'll splice the speaker wire to the existing stock speaker wire which is already run to all the speakers. Should this work fine?

Also I'll be installing my subwoofers soon which will be two 15 inch Sound Solution Audio Zcon series running off two hifonics Brutus elite 2400 watt amplifiers. I need a power cable big enough to handle the almost 5000 watts needed by the amps. Welding cable seems to be the obvious choice but exactly what gauge should I use? Thanks.

by the time you have it all apart its not that much extra work to run your own wire into the doors.. you will have better quality wire and half the splices.

I agree. just run new wire, it really isnt a big deal. also, you will need some converter boxes since you are ditching the oem headunit.

Chime box (those come from the oem headunit)
Onstar
Steering wheel control

shouldnt need any of that on an 02!! no data bus on that year. and if it had onstar it wont work anyway. onstar is all dig now.. in o2 the onstar components were analog.

Thanks for all the replies. I've already got an aftermarket head unit that works. My OnStar doesn't but it was expired anyway. The amp is located behind the glove box and what I've found out is that my anti theft among other things is run through that amp. Meaning when I unplug my factory amp I get no power to anything and I can't start my truck. What I'm working on now is a way to bypass the amp while still giving it power so it controlls the other things. I'm picking up the wiring diagrams for all my connecters and audio stuff from GMC sometime soon. Once I figure out what to do I'll try to post pictures and instructions. To be honest it probably would be easier to just run new speaker cable but at this point I just want to see what I can do to bypass the damn amp.

I just cut and spliced in my wife's 02 Yukon even though a metra 70-2003 harness will fit the output harness from the amp. Took powers/ground/illumination all from the radio harness and ran my speaker leads from the 4-channel to the output harness from the factory amp. I couldn't tell you whether or not factory keyless/anti-theft works or not because I installed a code alarm remote start and alarm the day we brought it home.

No need for any type of expensive integration, the 02 still has RAP at the radio harness and the chime is located in the BCM which is easily removed if you are like me and think chimes are obnoxious.
