Moonroof not closing completely

Is it not traveling far enough or is the gasket worn out and just not sealing?
First thing I’d do is see if I can readjust the glass in the opening.
There are 2 or 3 screws on each side that attach the glass to the frame. If you loosen them, you can adjust the glass position and see if that helps. Just make sure the front edge is just slightly below the roof and the rear is just slightly proud of the roof, like the thickness of a business card.
You can get to the screws by popping off the accordion pieces. I can’t remember if you need to pull the inner trim piece off first. It’s been awhile since it had to get in there and that was to replace the gasket that goes around the glass.

My switch would come loose in my 07.
I pulled down that panel enough to get my fingers in there to the switch and wiggle the wire and it would work again could give it a shot before you dig too deep
Need to lube all seals, moon/sun roof, doors, liftgate and windows, at least every 2 years. There is a recommended lube listed in the owner's manual.
My moon/sun roof is something I wish I did not have. I worry about a leak coming in the future. I do not use it or care to use it. Is a weak spot, IMO. If I was to sell my 2005 Z71, that would be one of the reasons.

worth checking the drain isn't plugged up too. they all leak a little bit but designed to drain faster than they leak haha.
I wish I didn't have one as well, on the way home with it, I had the sun shade open very heavy rain on the interstate. felt around and could feel some water getting in. like oh great, looks like I'm fixing seals. but it's never given me any problem. the bit of wet never got out of the drain groove.

A length of string trimmer line works well to clean out the two drain lines.
ya that lube is not cheap, not the good stuff anyway, I bought some last year this was like $50

gm parts sells some for the corvette targa tops too. it was dumb expensive for like 2oz bottle. but it worked and those cars are plagued with noisy and popping tops when you drive.

I’ve gone deep into the metal sunroof to glass moonroof Resto on another vehicle. It’s a can of fried worms. I’m not familiar with GM’s sunroof mech but can tell you the best thing to lube a sunroof with is dielectric grease.
I never look out of my roof. I store cards and toothpicks there.
I'm not sure if you can find it anymore, but the oem stuff is pretty good for me. you put it on, let it soak in and then wipe off the excess. since I've been using it my 08 weather stripping feels better than some new gm's I've looked at. but I also have nothing to compare it too. I bought the car, the top drove me crazy and before I sold it, I tried this stuff and it worked.

I use dielectric grease, Sil-Glide, or aerosol silicone sprayed on a rag, for weatherstripping.

It is amazing how much water collects on the roof after a rain storm. One morning I pulled out of my driveway after a rain storm, and I opened my sun roof, since it was a nice sunny day. After leaving my driveway, the road slopes down and eventually comes to a stop sign. I slowed down for the stop sign, and a RIVER of water came streaming down on me and completely soaked me.
