I have Thoe 2018. Today in the morning, check engine start blinking and ABS is off. I can feel the car is vibrating pretty bad, even when car is not driving.
Went to dealer and they check codes. Find out that engine is misfire and something wrong with cylinder #6
When i was driving the car was shacked as well.
How serious it is? they say that it takes 3-5 days for diagnostic, but i just want to be prepared.

It should not take 3-5 days for diagnosis, and the cause can be from many sources. The use of a quality bi-directional scanner should be able to locate the source of your issue in a matter of hours.

could be anything from simply needing a induction service, spark plug, coil, injector, to internal engine damage.
without checking it out thoroughly it's just a guess

Hopefully it is simple. He said the same thing. Can be serious or not , diagnostics will help. But why car is shaking?

the engine runs smooth with all 8 cylinders firing, when 1 is missing, it's like a table or chair with 1 leg shorter than the rest so it wobbles
same thing applies for many moving things like fans, unbalanced wheels, drivelines, all kinds of things basically anything that spins has to be balanced.

it might be worthwhile to get a 2nd opinion from a different shop, dealers tend to not want to make repairs and instead want to just replace it.

I can’t see how one misfire code means a new engine. Take that truck to another mechanic!

95% of the time it’s a plug and/or coil. Then if that’s not it the injector.

Or a valve spring, bent pushrod.

Yep, but that would be much of a “low probability” cause of a misfire but even that can be fixed without a new motor. Seems like a lot of these dealers don’t want to open the engine and repair it and just take the big money job and replace the motor.

I’d also check to see if an independent mechanic would take a second look instead of a dealer.

not unless you happened to have some kind of warranty that maybe just ended like very recently, sometimes,,,,,,,,if you were extremely lucky
but being it is a 18 and 80k, pretty sure that's a hard no

I told them that if after 80k i need new engine, it is mean that GM has really really bad engines.
That tells me probably that cylinder was bad from the beginning and it took 7 years before it shows up.

I personally think you should skip the new diagnosis and have a different shop put a plug and possible coil and see if that fixes the issue if not possible injector. I just think with paying for diagnosis again might as well try and fix the issue in my opinion. Good luck.
