Mirrors fold when key out

Has anyone wired up a way that, when u take your key out or turn ignition off the power mirrors fold in and do the opposite when u put the key in????

I hope this thread gives someone who is knowledgeable of wiring electricity an idea to do it. If u do complete this install please post details (wire colors, pictures, info etc)

Well think about it for a minute. What makes the locks unlock automatically when you take the key out or the lights turn on? If you can tap into that functionality with your mirror motor you're golden. The big hurdle with this is that it may be a PCM mod that is necessary but I don't know. Obviously there's a sensor that says the key has been pulled out.

our trucks down have power mirrors that fold in period, so wouldnt you need to install a motor in the mirror units?..

I'm pretty sure some of the later model 00-06's had the option of power folding mirrors

possibly, ive got an 06 nali that when i bought used was told it was "loaded" with 2nd row capitans chairs, nav, rear ent system, ect. Granite I know not to believe any car salesman but would think that if they were that my truck would have came equipt with them. I guess that is what we need to find out for sure before we go any furthur with the research on this topic?

03+ trucks have (optional, i believe) power fold mirrors.

Folding in/out when you want them to can be done, but you will have to go straight to the motor wires, and you would have to use something, such as a DEI 528t timer relay, that would ouput for the amout of time it takes the mirrors to fold in/out..roughly 3-4 seconds, depending on age/condition of the motor.

In addition, you would have to run 2 timer relays, or 2 outputs, since polarity is reversed for folding out as opposed to folding in. If you have ever messed with or wired up window motors, its the same concept. You have 2 wires; when you give one power and the other ground, the window goes up. Reverse the power/ground on those 2 wires, window goes down.

I used the door lock/unlock outputs of my aftermarket alarm, along with the above mentioned timer relay, so they will fold in with arm, and fold out with disarm.

Also, wiring straight to the motor wires is the only way to do it. When you fold them in with the OEM button, the DDM (drivers door module) sends a signal via the databus to the motors. Since that is GM proprietary info, there is no way around it.

I was initially worried that I would prematurely wear out the motors with the daily and constant folding in/out, but I have wired them up this way for about 3 years with no problems yet.

My 2003 LT has the folding mirrors... in case you dont know how to fold them, set your mirror control in the middle and then push the pad to the right and they should move in, then to fold them out push the pad to the left. And this just seems like a good way to wear them out no matter what the one poster says.

And the question on my mind is actually 2 parts, one is why do you need the mirrors to fold in/out everytime you arm/disarm your ride and two why not just hit the pad to the right or left whenever you get in/out. No wiring nor interfacing needed at all... 1 finger, 1 push.

I used to have an older Supra that had the up/down headlights on it and I had them wired to the alarm to go up/down when you armed/disarmed it and it did indeed wear them out way ahead of their time.

I just checked it, and omar you made my night! my truck has power folding mirrors that fold in, im texting my boy who owns an audio/video shop and having him wire in a remote start into my truck, exhaust and drop soon to come. thanks again, and my oh so "loaded 06 nali" has them!

I used it as a visual confirmation that I armed my alarm when I used to park on the street and I couldnt see my LED in direct sunlight.

But regardless of that, no one *needs* a modification done to their vehicle.

you know thats why alarms have a parking light output, for visual confirmation and they also chirp...

And I am not trying to be overly critical but I have installed alarms solid for 20+ years and there are ways of confirming your alarm is armed instead of having your mirrors fold in, just saying

You can also add power folding mirrors to 99-02s as well. I did it on my 2001 Suburban. You'll need a 2002 Escalade power folding mirror switch and to do a little wiring.

The mirrors came out of a 2006 I believe and as most of you may or may not know, the electrical connectors are different. So instead of just cutting and splicing wires, I purchased some OEM connectors and made the 2006 mirrors plug and play into a 2001.
