I have an 05 Yukon with the 5.3. I’ve always wanted to manual swap the transmission but I’m not sure how realistic that is. Has anyone else done this to their gmt800 and if so how hard was it?

Can't be that hard - in Mexico GMT800 pickup trucks with OE manual transmissions (and GMT400 of course) were much more popular than you might think.
AVOID the NV3500. NV4500 is good, ZFS6-650 is better, but TR-4050 is great.

Simply searching for "NV3500" in the title would have returned this thread:

Or, separately, using NV4500:

You got any experience with a tr4050? Sounds like a dream, but not much data out there that I see. It would have to shift really really good to beat a nv4500.

Si, en Mexico, y Colombia. Seriously.
It does shift way nicer than you'd expect a 'trucky' manual to shift, it felt closer to a Camaro/Firebird manual than an NV4500, at least in terms of my right hand.

Tremec has since made the TR4050 aftermarket available as a retrofit.

If you can find an NV4500 or a ZFS6-650, it'll likely cost FAR less than a new TR4050 from Tremec.

Good to know, being an aluminum case I’m sure it’s a bit lighter than the cast iron nv4500 too. Would be a fantastic option for a 4x4 with those gear splits. I’ve been eyeing a K5 build for awhile and it would work well in that.

Only problem is that his is an NV3500. Other ones I suggested are more durable, especially coupled to a 6.2L.

Manual transmission is good. Manual transmission and manual transfer case is better ;)

Im in love with my NV4500 and NP241.

The swap was not so hard. All bolt-on. Its expensive. The gearbox costs the money, the flywheel, the clutch. Even a good metal clutch pedal costs a $250. You need a wide list of components. Its summarize in big money.

Please regard my jealously as a compliment.

Also, is that a fold down front center seat, gottdamnt?!
You should click on a pic and its became bigger  I suppose...
Here is one more pic. I made it just after the swap. The fold down front center seat (yes, it is) was installed later.
