Todd Sutherland has some good prices that are making me think it might be worth it.
My 2024 Tahoe HC with 14k miles is $1714 for the platinum 72/72 $0 deductible.
Last year when I was shopping for platinum plan I was getting over $3500 for a $0 deductible 72/72.
At this price under $2k and the decrease in quality control in the automotive sector in general I am probably going with Todd.

One thing I read about an aftermarket FBN company warranty. Transmission goes out, $5000 repair. You take it to one of their approved shops. They determine the torque converter went bad and destroyed the transmission. The torque converter is not covered so the transmission is also not covered - since it was damaged by a non-covered part. (GM warranty covers the TC)

Update on my quote from Sutherland.
FYI:

I gave him my VIN and exact odometer reading 14220 miles.
Todd told me my mileage added $1k to the quote for 72/72 platinum $0 deductible - $2700.00.
If I had 12,000 or less it would have been $1770.00

I have never been in any accidents but I had some tree debris crack the rear side fixed window and I had it replaced with OEM glass but that was my auto insurance that covered that.

I thought that might have had something to do with the increase but was told it was purely mileage.
$1000.00 increase for being 2k miles over the 12k limit.

I thought I read somewhere that 15k was the mileage limit for increase but I was wrong.

i have two warranties from him - '24 yukon and a '25 1500 for 72/72... but i did $250 deduction. i just really wanted the tranny and engine to have some coverage in year five or six if keep them that long... the warranties were $1400 a piece.

i used just trade in every couple years... i think with what prices are now.. it is better to go four or five years. even the state taxes are way more than should be too...

that gm warranty is CHEAP... if you look at a state tax of $4k... put off for a few years...

i rather doubt these yukons/1500s will last more than 10 yrs without a lot of effort. and politics also has grip on what we do on the large segment that we are in.. that will be upsidedown in four or five years too. bummer.

To my knowledge, it has always been 12,000 miles and below get the best pricing @BacDoc.

Correct I posted that several times. I called Knapp directly and they told me to wait until right before 12k to buy the warranty.

You can buy that warranty until the B2b is over. So I would have asked how long until the $1000 extra charge goes up to the next surcharge tier. You may have until 24k miles or something before the next surcharge tier?

That’s a good idea. It might be one of those things that hit certain numbers and you get the price point.
The only thing I know is that everything always goes up!
I will ask that question and see, right now I’m on the fence with the warranty.
As I write this most investments are down but overall the S&P is only down 1%.

I still maintain the theory that if you buy new and put the same amount of money in a fund or quality stocks when you buy the truck, in the b2b period and beyond you will be better off than just buying the warranty.

Knapp told me same thing...Wait till you have 10K or so as it just overlaps the factory warranty. It goes from time of your warrnty purchase.

Are these plans (from Knapp or Todd) genuine GM plans or third‑party?

  1. Any experience/track record on claims?
  2. How do they handle own oil changes?

Todd's are genuine GM plans. I've used it one time with no problems.

With our GMEPP I just take it to the dealer for oil changes. Not that expensive for that and a tire rotation, alignment check, and fluid refills. And they'll wash it if I forget to leave a note on the steering wheel not to. I've already done a trans filter and fluid but when it gets to 60k miles, if it ever does, I'll probably fork over the money to have them do it again if the warranty hasn't timed out. Don't want any gray areas with that warranty coverage.

From Todd:

- For Cadillac in order to buy a plan you must have at least 90 days left of your original bumper to bumper as well as under 47,000 miles.
- For Chevy/GMC in order to buy a plan you must have at least 30 days left of your original bumper to bumper as well as under 35,000 miles
- After 12,000 miles you lose the option of 8 years or 100,000 miles of coverage,
- Every 12,000 miles prices jump
- Lastly, even though it's not guaranteed, GM has a yearly price increase that tends to happen in April.

Hey Folks...getting ready to purchase the GMEPP warranty. I got a response back from the dealer that doesn't sound right. Basically send in money and you get no paperwork. See below for quote in green. Is this right?

Currently GMEPP does not send any confirmation. However, in about 45-60 days the plan should show up via your vin number through GmGlobal. You will not have access to this, your servicing Gm dealer will

Something doesn’t sound right.

I have purchased the General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) for years.

When my wife and I purchased our new 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2025 Chevrolet Equinox, we bought the GMPP for both vehicles (within 30 days of the vehicle purchase).

At the time of the GMPP purchases (two separate plans - at two separate times), the dealer printed two copies of the plan for me. I keep one copy in the glovebox and one in my vehicle file for each vehicle.

good deal!

you know if you knew a carbyte, a cache can and a 5w30 would work... you would not need a warranty. on the other hand an engine or tranny is a fortune... and a 100k cost auto is not one you trade-in when it need tires either.

i did 72/72 on my yukon and truck. 84 is great.

one other thing i did.. i changed out my ford credit card to a gm credit card. it gets enough points to do oil changes.. easy.

Knapp was surprisingly much higher... around $2,300 for the same protection plan.
It's truly interesting how the car business is like airlines, everyone has to do their own homework and ends up paying a different price, but hearing others' experiences is helpful. I had to get the ECU repaired on my other car because the transmission was slamming downshifts. the idea of $5000-$7000 for a transmission was not going to happen on a 2006. I was ecstatic that I paid $185 for the repair. Another person replies to the thread he paid $140 (exact same vendor). It's the same here with the warranties
