Wants wants to get a Tahoe or 4Runner. I am leaning more towards the tahoe. Does the 20/19 Tahoe have a timing chain or belt and is it a cvt or standard transmission. Looking at either the 2020/2021 but leaning towards the 20 since there are issues with the 21.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon.

The 20 is the last year of the 2015 to 2020 run on the Tahoe's and bugs are down to a minimum. I am the worst at a recommendation here since my love of the Tahoe is more with the 2000 to 2006 years.

I was always against buying the first year of a car that has been redesigned but that 21 looks really nice upfront. It all depends on how good of a deal I can get on a 20.

The first year of a new model is known as being the one with the most bugs in it. If you can deal with that, go for the 21.

I just picked up a 2015 Tahoe LTZ. We also looked at a 4runner but it wasn't nearly as big as teh Tahoe(4runner is built on a compact truck frame, Tahoe is full size). Totally different vehicle class. We have 5 kids between us so that was a deciding factor. Plus I felt the 4runner styling/interior wasn't nearly as nice as the Tahoe.

Ideally we'd have a suburban but didn't want to drive that beast all the time. If we went on a long trip I'd just get a clamshell storage box and throw it on the roof rack.

One thing to consider is the rear deck. In 2021, the rear deck is flush, earlier models the deck is raised.

As for the engine, the Dynamic Fuel Management was already in use in the Silverado, and in 2020 Tahoe/Yukon so mechanically this is not new.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

If you purchase a Tahoe, I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

You've received good advice already from folks here, and the choice will come down to how much you are willing to roll the dice on the '21 to become part of the consumer testing and defect finding process associated with a new model year vehicle. And, while almost everything will be under warranty, the warranty never covers inconvenience and the disruption to daily life activities, when something goes wrong. So, how much daily life disruption are you willing to risk?

I bought a 2020 the end of July of this year. It replaced a 2017 4Runner, my second. The Tahoe actually gets better gas mileage than the 4Runner did, on the interstate, and pulling a 17' Boston Whaler. The main reason I went to the Tahoe was for more room. I got mine without the third row seating. So far I love it.

True. Buttons always concerns me. Can’t imagine how much it would be to fix something like that
Having driven several GM vehicles with the "button" shift, I can say without a doubt that I HATE, HATE, HATE them. (That is truly the way I feel about it).
