If an agency is retiring a police Tahoe after 20/30k miles, something is seriously wrong. Just something to consider...

^^^thats true. Most agencies run their vehicles into the ground before considering replacing them....

What everyone else has said so far! I can't believe you have even found one with that low of miles.... Any police vehicle you buy you can be guaranteed that it was driven very hard, most of the time. Just think about it, if you were driving a car that wasn't yours and it didn't matter what you did to it...wouldn't you drive the piss out of it? I know I would!

On the other hand, it wouldn't be hard to replace the seats, the center console is fairly expensive though. No carpet wouldn't be that big of a deal, if you don't care, and you may have to put speakers in the rear doors and in the back?

I bought my '09 PPV with only 23,200 miles on the clock and in damn near perfect condition. The interior was spotless and the exterior didn't have any scratches. The only evidence of additional equipment being installed was two small screw holes on the inside top of the back window which I presume was some sort of lights as well as some additional flashers/bulbs in the tail light housings. The dealer said it was a "Municiple Vehicle" and not used as a cop car even though it's a Police Pursuit Vehicle (Defender Pkg).

I have been underneth the vehicle and did determine the rear plastic bumper cover was replaced/painted as I found some white paint overspray. The spare tire has never been used either.

So those vehicle are not all abused and obviously not all cop cars.

But I agree, I wouldn't buy one with high mileage.

I picked up a used center console off Ebay for $250 but searched a while for one that cheap.

I also added carpet but be aware the ebony carpet is not available from GM, believe me I looked. I ended up getting a used carpet from a wrecked Denali. Power washed it and it looks brand new.

BTW, I have the OEM vinyl floor cover if anybody (off road dudes) is interested.

another thing to consider is the hours on the engine. Police vehicles sit for long periods of time running.

Actually, many 07-08 police tahoes are retired between 65k and up, so no, not all government tahoes are run into the ground...

I agree with the occasional low mileage thing. Locally there were a few Tahoes that were bought mainly for inclement weather. They were bought with the intention of keeping them 3 to 4 years. So the mileage on a few of them is really low. On the other hand, some of them are 120k miles plus! I saw a suburban that had 12k miles on it. Its whole life was spent as a tow vehicle for an emergency rescue boat.

I think they would have a decent maintenance schedule. Regular fluid changes.

Preventative maintenance probably keeps some cops alive.

well it depends on the station. The RI state police has to have their cars Inspected and Maintained every month.

exactly.

I am waiting to find the right one, looking for no more than 60 or 70k miles. Would like to keep it under $20,000

all I would be interested in adding is the front leather seats and console, the vinyl in the back is perfect for hauling the dogs and I am clumzy

basically ive seen some 20-30,000 mile 07 08's for around 20k. thats what im looking for.

I bought one earlier in the year, couple minor body dings. It had 130,000 on it when i got it. I had to replace the transmission in sept, hit me for a grand. I bought a center console off craigslist, my interior was great except for the driver seat. i plan on replacing both seats anyway. I bought carpet from ebay, just the front section though because if i put crap in the back i wont have to worry about dirt and grime. I had a crown vic previously and loved having the upgraded wiring and coolers, definitely great for custom audio setups.

Its a 2007, funny thing when i was getting it replaced LTZ model was getting theirs replaced too. I love the police look on most cars, I could have gotten a non-ppv version but it had what i wanted done to already. They are lowered already, beefed up suspension, and different gearing for the trans. The cheaper you can get it the more money for accessories is how i see it.

I bought an 07 Tahoe SSV at auction with 87K miles. I added leather, tinted front windows and cleaned the paint up a bit. I really like it. It's dark blue with tint and no roof rack or chrome.

I'd sell for the right price. Has 92K on it now.
