Looked for help and never introduced myself

Hello all and i apologize, i posted up looking for help and never introduced myself, so here goes.

First thank you those that replied to my thread and offered helpful advice, i really appreciate it.

Ok, so i am griffinzx10, i live in FL and 2 weeks ago i bought a 2005 Yukon SLT, used of course. I have always wanted a full size SUV, i have owned a 95 4Runner, which the Yukon replaced, and i own a 2006 Xterra, which i am parting with due to life changes, ha ha ha

When i went to the Ford Stealership where the truck was at i was led to believe that it was the 5.3L but after running carfax on it, find out it is the 4.8L engine. After some research i realize that there isn't much HP/Torque difference btwn the two engines, and i really don't tow much weight. I average 3500lbs but the absolute most i would tow is probably about 5-6k Lbs, so i don't think the smaller engine will make much of a difference.

Other than that, i absolutely love the truck, it does everything so much better than any other truck i have owned....

Well look fwd to talking with you all about mods and stuff..

welcome JC, nice looking ride indeed. I too have the 4.8, and after I added the Blackbear tune, it made a TON of difference. Now I ordered a set of 4.10 gears since I added rolling mass of the 20" rims and tires. The stock 3.42's are anemic to pull a 6000 lb truck, with such a small motor that has no low end torque.
The tune helped most, gears will get the powerband back up, then IF I decide to keep the truck, a new paint scheme is in the works, as well as a cammed 5.3 or 6.0. A new stall, etc.
But for now, it will suprise alot just as is, then gears will really wake it.

Overall, I'm happy with the 4.8, but we always want more, right?

thanks for the welcome and info, and to be honest most of what you said has gone right over my head, never been much of a car/truck person in the sense of tuning, gearing and stuff. Now if you want to talk sport bikes, then ha ha ha, i can definitely talk about that for dayssssss on end...

well, the factory puts in like a highway friendly 3.42, or 3.73 gear. The higher the gear, the better low end you will have, but you will run at a much higher RPM down the highway at 75.
So say you do most your driving around town, like me, about 85-15%.
So the 3.42, is good on highway, stinks around town, pulling this big heavy truck and wheels. So the higher, 4.10's will get me up and going faster, easier from stoplight to light.

GM put in torque management in these, starting in 96ish maybe, someone may correct me. What it does in simple terms is let you use a certain amount of your power available, and reduce power out until you reach a certain speed or pedal.

Make it simple like saying you have a car, drive it with a 2 barrel carb, then swap on a 4 barrel. Much more power.
A custom tune can change shift points on tranny, so it's not a slow, gradual granny transfer, but more of a precise shift, firm. And at a higher RPM, so more power.

there's more into it for sure, and there are several companies that do it. it BLOWS away the generic handheld tuners you see.

If you ever decide to do the change, change gears first, then get a tune. That way they can correct your speedometer, as it will be off due to the gear change.
Mine is already tuned, and I plan to change gears soon, and BB will do a free retune, all I have to do is send my computer back in. Simple couple day turn around.
But if gears don't bother you, then a tune will for sure help in power, and I gained 2 MPG to boot.

I frequent many sites, and I have YET, to see someone upset and disappointed with their BlackBear tune.
