So looking at a ‘26 Sububran High Country Deluxe and ‘26 Denali XL Reserve.

The Suburban has tempered glass on the front driver door and passenger door. Yukons have laminated door glass.

How much of a difference does this create in terms of road noise etc? I know they “feel” different when you tap them and I know they break different, but can anyone tell the difference when driving down the highway?

I have a ‘24 Yukon XL SLT currently and it has laminated door glass.

I would rather have tempered glass over laminated. Tempered shatters into 1000 tiny pieces. Laminated can have shards to better teach a guy why tempered is better.
I thought it was a law actually that side and back windows had to be tempered but i guess not.

The front doors in the Yukons are laminated. Here’s a driver door pic from my ‘24 XL SLT and here’s a pic from the ‘26 Suburban High Country showing tempered.

I rented a Tahoe for a recent work trip and they gave me a '23 Suburban Premier. The noise level was night and day difference compared to my Denali. I know this doesn't help answer your question but I was surprised how much of a difference it was. The outside noise was quite noticeable on the burb.

Thanks for sharing. Hoping to get some more feedback on road noise between Suburban/Tahoe and the Yukon. Thanks!

I’m not sure that’s accurate. I googled and got the same thing but further digging suggests only the windshield is laminated on the Tahoe/Suburbans and not the front door windows which are tempered. Also posted a above of a Suburban High Country Deluxe that has tempered driver door.

My 2024 Tahoe has tempered glass on the front and rear driver/passenger window imprint.

I had my right rear fixed window struck by wind driven debris and it was broken but solid and together. I watched the removal and replacement and pretty sure it was laminated.
I know the windshield and rear glass are laminated.

That rear fixed glass was very hard to get. It was in place and waterproof but shattered.
Took over 3 weeks to get the glass panel and I had to go through Safelite, which I would never recommend.
My dealer told me it would be 4-6 weeks before they could get that panel!

Probably laminated tempered where they take 2 thin pieces of tempered glass and laminate it. There’s all types of laminated glass, not necessarily in the automotive world but some are used for bulletproof glass in limos and high security vehicles also as well as architectural. Layers of annealed (non-tempered or regular ) glass are sometimes used with layers of tempered in a multiple-lamination glass. They’re laminated with a strong plastic layer. So sometimes you’ll see a tempered layer on the outside get shattered but it doesn’t fall away like normal tempered because the plastic layer is holding all the pieces in place, and the inner side is still functioning to keep the weather out. Windshields are laminated annealed, 2 thin layers of annealed glass sandwiched with a plastic layer inside. It’s the most fragile because that outside and inside layer of glass is about 3/32” thick of regular old annealed window glass. It’s only kinda strong because there’s 2 pieces with that plastic in the middle. Sorry, retired glass man here.

I had laminated on my 2015 Denali, its same as any MANDATED front windshields. They're very hard to break thru....like a windshield. Yes maybe 20% quieter I found than bade model Yukon. BEWARE! If in an accident ( submersion, fire etc) you won't get OUT thru that window! And no one will break your window to grab you at a light!! But NOT bullet proof!

That’s the main drawback IMO of having laminated side windows in a vehicle- at least with tempered ones you can use a glass breaker and pop them and escape if you go under water for example. Not so with laminated; your vehicle becomes a tomb unless you have enough foresight to roll down a window while you still have power.

Also another little unknown fact for us here in the US is that in Europe and much of the world, windshields are tempered, not laminated like we have here. the issue I have with that is although they’re harder to break, just like tempered side windows, when they do break they shatter into a thousand little tiny pieces all over your lap and in your face and then you’re open to the weather.
