07 tahoe 181k previous owner says replaced transmission with an older unit that doesnt have a speed shaft sensor. Drives fine but 1-2 shift is hard at low rpm cel p0717. Is there an easy way to correct this or does the transmission need to be replaced with a 07 trans? Any help appreciated

The fastest way to fix this issue is to replace the transmission with a 2007-2008 model year unit...Only those two years will work. Double check to make sure it's a TSS transmission (ie actually has the sensor installed as some 2007 units don't have them). 09+ and 06 and back are a no-go.

Until I jumped on this forum I had no idea what Nick was referring to about 07/08 trans we’re only compatible in 07/08 Tahoe, Yuke & Burbs.

GM took 2 years but they finally updated all the 5.3 motors to a 6 speed transmission like the 6.2 Denali got. As a new 07-14 owner back in ‘14 I had no idea why the 08 we purchased was so quiet on the highway compared to our 06.

Hey @NickTransmissions , is it a thing to duplicate the 2009+ 6 speed trans / 5.3L combo into a 07 or 08 w/ a 4 speed?

Me not NickTransmissions ...

Simplest way I can think of, would be to use 09+ ecm, tcm AND pretty much entire '09 wiring harness.
Can't wait for answer to be simpler and easier.

You'd think that, if CAFE, EPA, et al, were really serious about improving MpGs,
they'd encourage the retrofit of 6L80E into 4L60E / 4L80E vehicles. Hey, a guy can dream ...

If you're asking about swapping a 6L into a vehicle that originally took a 4-speed, it prob be easier to sell the 4-speed equipped vehicle and buy one that has a 6L...They have completely different comm architectures and sounds like a nightmare to adapt one to make work with the other.
