Is this a good deal? CPO 2020 SLT, former Hertz Rental from Michigan

Long time no post, but someone wrecked my Accord (work vehicle) last week. I found a CPO 2020 SLT with 60k for under $50k. Carfax is clean but it was a rental up in Michigan. With it being so new, should I worry about rust issues? My second thought is it was a rental vehicle, so I'm sure rinsed off after every use.

Love following the site, looking to get back to a Tahoe/Yukon. Sold my 2003 SLT a couple of years ago and regretted it ever since!

I would have a good independent mechanic put it on the rack and check it out from top to bottom. Request service records. When I requested service records from Enterprise years ago for a different vehicle they had no issue giving it to me.

With that said I have bought rental vehicles in the past and had no issues with them. All were serviced every 5-6K miles.

Rental vehicles have 2 things with them.

1) they are always well maintained by the dealer usually and get all things fixed mechanically. The rental companies just get them serviced routinely and nothing gets missed. If you get the carfax you’ll probably see that the car is serviced every few months.

2) they tend to be rougher around the edges in terms of interior wear and paint since people don’t care for them as a personnel vehicle. Rental companies aren’t going to ceramic wax there cars are worry about small scratches and things.

That being said I bought a 2015 Tahoe LTZ former rental with 104k on it a year ago and it’s been fine. Had do fox some cosmetic issues like repainting rear bumper and fixing scratched interior pieces but now it’s good and had a great deal to me. 28k back then.

My biggest concern is that it is from Michigan - a high road salt area.

Yes up here in MI they a lot of salt on the roads, but these newer vehicles hold up a lot better. With this being a 2020 MY I would not worry about any road salt damage

If your going to keep it a while get it undercoated. I did that with my 2015. They cleaned up the undercarriage and then sprayed it.

I just picked up a 2019 Yukon XL SLT 2WD with 40k miles for a little over 47k in TX.

Glad to hear you went with it. I have a 2019 previous Enterprise Tahoe LT. It was a year old with 33K when I got it. It was the cleanest one I had looked at. The seats looked barely broken in, a few dings here and there but nothing like a a daily used family vehicle. If you have not already, look at the GPS history and bluetooth history. I got mine out of Pennsylvania, was originally purchased in Jersey. But had been to Vegas, California, Seattle, and a few spots in the midwest. Hopefully yours was in Michigan but spent some time down South. Rust shouldnt be a big deal, it only spent one winter in salt

I do have to say, it is funny (to me) how people think the rental companies do routine maintenance. I'm not sure where that idea came from because they do the absolute BARE minimum and it is almost never done by the dealer, only warranty work. I would never buy one but luckily (for you/them) it seems like most people aren't as picky and **** as I am so hopefully it is a good vehicle for you since you've already bought it.

So far so good on mine with 2 years and 30K more miles on it. Service records really aren't that important or informative on the condition of a vehicle. If something broke under warranty then I am sure it was fixed by a dealer and that will be seen, but if there's no records then that should mean that the car didn't have any issues, or like me, change their own oil, rotate tires, and whatever else would show up as "maintenance". I didn't realize my Tahoe was a prior rental until I started getting into the carfax/docs. But either way it was CPO so 100K powertrain is there if needed. I plan to run this thing into the ground. Still have my 08 with over 200K.. expect this one to go the same

Well, almost a year to the day (tomorrow) the transmission started shaking and I couldnt get the accelerator past 1750 RPM without it violently shaking. I took it in to the GMC dealership here in NC. Feels like transmission or Torque Convertor. I've put 24k in less than 12 months, currently sitting at 83k. Would you sell and take a loss at this point, or ride it since it has (fingers crossed) a new transmission?

which transmission does it have?

If it's the 6L80e I would have them fix it and keep going (CPO warranty). Unless they offer you a peach of a deal and something better is on the lot.

Agreed. Just make sure the trans has the 100k warranty. For some reason I though I remember hearing from a friend at a dealership that if it's covered under warranty it's only 2 yr 24k. If it's customer pay, then 3 yr, 100k. I could be wrong, but something worth asking.

CPO warranty info I have read recently indicated 12 months 12k miles from your date of purchase. I guess may get more if you pay more $$$

The thing is that with rental vehicles they go everywhere. Maybe it had Michigan plates, but it could have spend considerable time just about anywhere... I rented a car in Florida last month with Arizona plates.
