Anyone have any suggestions for augmenting the lighting in the rear cargo area of a 2021 Tahoe? I find the built-in lighting well below a useful level and would like something to help illuminate the space when loading/unloading gear. I figure I can either get a portable lamp or maybe plug-in to the outlet back there with something that requires an outlet. Anyone else find the lighting back there dim?

I haven’t searched this cargo area on this model but I have used a LED light strip on previous sedans. TRhe bar works well because it was a easy installation and out of the way. I used thred ZipTies and a very small slit in the carpet on the back end of the parcel shelf. Easy wiring to the existing wires for the OEM trunk light……that was pretty weak too and a easy fix.

I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee prior to this and although the cargo area was marketed as LED. The bulb was atta to the lift gate. The problem with that is with the lift gate open the light was shining on the ground not the cargo area.

Assuming you could find a out of the way place to mount it that option could be very effective in cargo area lighting.

I'm not familiar with your model year, but does it come stock with LED overhead lights? My 07 came with incandescent overhead bayonet-type bulbs, and the conversion to LEDs made a night and day difference.

the new trucks have led but it's a single led light not interchangeable, the light output it's almost useless, even my 18 silverado has them, for instance it has some inside the inner door handles and unless you lean forward towards the steering wheel and look back you can't even see them light up anything at all when you sit back in your seat it's like there is no light on at all pitch black. there not much brighter than the back lights in the switches

The led overhead lights in these vehicles is pretty pathetic. They really don't illuminate anything inside our yukon and the color of them is terrible. I'd take the bright yellowish lighting of our old '11 burb any day over these blue leds

On my'05 Yukon, ... my puddle lights were useless. So I removed the lenses & polished the 'mat finish' plastic to a clear. Besides the LED replacement, the clear made it much brighter.
Maybe polish the cargo lenses to a clear?

The Brooklyn Lantern….Classic…..almost as good as the adapter cord a few years ago that could put a old timey handset to your iPhone…

Installed 2 scene lights on rear door molding, and RGB rock lights as well to have access to red lights to illuminate area when needing a little less conspicuous access.

Those look great. I'm assuming something like this?

Did you hook into the power on the rear liftgate to power these? Are they switched or they come-on automatically?

Thanks

Yes like those style scene lights, used rigid and these kasper as test run on my equipment trailer deck, couldn't tell difference, between them. So opted for the Kasper cheaper ones,

Switched, and used a fuse tap on rear fuse panel F09- says not used and it's constant hot.

The light is so bright that its power would be enough for a small party. When I was younger, my friends and I often gathered in the car instead of going somewhere. If you don't have enough money for a club, surprise your girlfriend with the fact that you can make a club in the base of the rear cargo area, lol. Young people now have more opportunities. I have seen bulbs that can sync to the beat of the music. I missed such a thing in my 25 years. Now, such powerful lighting can be useful when I try to find some small thing without glasses.

I don’t think it’s too bad…kind of prefer it not blinding when it’s dark out..

The cargo area in my 2019 Yukon has no lighting. There are only 3 rows of lighting, but the cargo area being the 4th row is left unilluminated. I posted about this before and considered adding some aftermarket light but never got around to it. I did learn however that the 2015-2016 (possibly 2017?) DID have a 4th row LED dome light that General Motors eliminated from future model years for some UNKNOWN reason, and apparently they never figured it out for the 2021+ models either. Cost savings?

That's weird... My '05 Yukon has that 4th light near the hatch. As usual...... What is GM thinking??

I have a 2021 Yukon Denali with 4 rows of overhead lights. The rear most light, just inside the liftgate only lights up half. I've bought a replacement light with the same results. There are only 2 wires that feed the light in my unit.

Has anyone else seen this problem and if so how was it solved?

I have no complaints about cargo area lighting. Rigid A-series LEDs.

They're powered by a jumper pack in these photos but I did wire them into the rear cargo light via a relay (and transistor to counter the soft on / off of the dome lights) and replaced the trim.
