Okay, so I'm not for sure if this is the right category to post this. My 2001 Z71 Tahoe has a RATTED out steering column. I was SUPER excited when junkyard got in a 2001 Z71 Suburban! The steering column and wheel were in excellent shape so I pulled them. Couple questions:

Rebuild: What serviceable parts should I rebuild on this donor steering column? Intermediate shaft?

Theft & Electronic Systems: I will swap the lock cylinder for the ignition (I'd like to buy a new one but not have to change my keys?). Are there other theft systems that would hinder me from dropping this column right in?

Column lock: The column lock appears to be broken on this wheel? Not sure how to 100% validate that with it out of car but it spins freely with key out. I'd really like a working column lock... anybody know how to rebuild it?

I can't shed any light on your questions, but I can suggest that you look into swapping your 2001 steering wheel for a 2003 + version. You will have to get a splined shaft from 2003+ and swap that out also. Some people like the look of the newer steering wheels. I have all the parts needed to do this, I just have to find the time and the motivation.

Remove the cover(s) and remove the key sensor. Replace with your old one and Anti theft shouldn't need programming. You could rekey at same time easy.
Wiggle bottom of steering shaft to determine if play is too much.
Steering lock- cycle key to determine if cylinder working correctly. Otherwise, it's likely sombody else has been in there. You will need to check so steering doesn't lock while driving. About 1-1/2 hours work.

I Usually take new cylinder to a locksmith now. Way back you could buy a Pin Kit, but I think they are $60 or so now and harder to find. Locksmith $40 or so here. Cylinder (GM) $20.
Or you could swap from old column. Graphite lube. No liquids.
