An open filter, whether it be K&N, Spectre, Airaid, etc., on the end of a chrome tube is marketed as a "CAI". You said you wanted to gain some performance. This is definitely not a way to do that. At least, not after the engine has warmed up and surely not during the summer. If it is indeed a CAI, then, carry on.
