Ignition cylinder

Someone tried to steal my 1994 Blazer K1500 and broke off this part of the ignition cylinder. Can this piece be reattached? I couldn't press it on by hand does it need to be pressed on with a mallet?

I can still turn the key but it's harder without the thumb assist.

The cover is staked around the edges. You could try removing the cylinder and restaking it, just banging it back on will probably not work. You have to pull the steering wheel so this can tie into your hazard flasher repair.
