How many features can be re-programmed in these trucks? Is there a list?

As I peruse these topics I see mentions of many different things being programmable including even the emergency flasher into a strobe! I see many conversations and opinions about how to tune trannies, timing, God--on and on. Does anyone have a list of EVERYTHING that can be reprogrammed on a 2012 5.3? I HATE traction control and stabilitrak. Thats is why I started to look for modding then see all these other things.

HPTuners is for engine/trans.
Autosync is for BCM.

hptuners can adjust some traction control off, but the ABS computer still brakes.
Only way I heard is to pull ABS fuse.

You can download hptuners for free
Then just find a tune file like your truck to check out the features.

Autosync does have EBCM tuning, but only for later models.
btdieselworks.com has an autosync install guide that goes over hardware features.
https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0164/1950/files/GMT-900_AutoSync_G2_install_v1_rev.A.pdf
The optional programming features are mostly lighting and door lock adjustments.

Do any of them adjust the speedo/odo for larger tires?

FYI, the version of HPT the vast majority of y'all really want, is v2.4 ...
What's 2.4 got?

I only have 5.0.4 and 4.8.7.

The current newest version (5.2.2) is not backwards compatible (maybe I mean forwards?) with the older versions.
(the older versions can't load what the new version saves)

the old version if you can find it, along with a miv1 or whatever the dongle is called, had all the stuff in it before they had to remove it to keep the epa off them.

like I believe you can flip one switch. all monitors go green without checking anything. you can still. mostly work around simple things, but it's much harder and anything posted about it seems to get scrubbed from the net within a few days.

I don't have the bandwidth to give you a comprehensive listing of all of the items that you can program for your truck from a quality bi-directional scanner. I would say to you that if you are truly interested, then purchase a quality bi-directional scanner (~$500) and connect to the GM programming database. There, you will already be in the specific available programming area for your truck (membership subscription usually is confined to 1 VIN at a reasonable price), and you can see specifically what programming options are available to you. It is not a high cost subscription, so if you are not impressed, you have not lost any significant money.

For example, if you don't already have this document, it explains all of the different items that the legacy Tech 2 could interact with on the truck's systems. Look into in more deeply, you should be able to determine what items are data only items, which items are manual test items, and which items are potentially programming items. It surely is a lot.

Let us know what you think.

I wish I could find a way to turn off my service air bag message. All my airbags are removed and this message prevents me from seeing my mileage on the display.

have you tried stuff like this? I know guys use them when installing aftermarket seats without the airbags in gm cars. but this exact one, it's just a quick Google but same idea.

There’s a lot of different features and programming that the BTDiesel Works Autosync can accomplish.

Check it out:

EDIT: Just realized @mikez71 already linked the autosync.

OK so about 3 different things talked about here. tuning, flashing and programing.

so when you replace a module, like say abs, or fuel pump because it died. you need to flash the new one to the car it's going in. that sets the vin and then correct software to work with your specific year vehicle and options. the parts are Legos gm buys from vendors. it needs the software to make it work with your car. that is what takes a programmer that can hook to the car thru the obd port and gm website. pay your 40$ or whatever and their website will pull the vin number, look up the correct software on their server to be flashed. this is stock unmodified oem software. they do have updates sometimes to fix bugs too, that's why I've had to do it. this was/is done mainly by dealer techs with gm tech 2 in the early 2000s or mdi these days. think $2k plus dealer scan tools. there's aftermarket scanners that can do it too for cheaper like Altel seems to popular. but only the higher end ones I believe. never used that brand. I personally have used a cheap stand alone dongle that 149$ to update module software in 2 of my gm cars along with a cheap china tech 2 for diagnostic work.
some cars will have some options adjustable in their software with the tech 2 or the like but it seems very few in these gmt900's. all I really know forsure is adding outside temp to your havc display or dash, can't remember which? and after-blow to your blower motor. if people complainee about moldy smelling ac, the tech could turn on after blow. few mins after you exit the vehicle it will turn on the hvac blower to dry out the evap.
older stuff like my 08 c6 you can manually select stuff like if the car came with mag ride shocks and you switch to standard ones, you can change that setting and the car will work as if it came without that rpo code. that would be helpful with our trucks, but the option isn't there. you gotta install resistors to trick the computer. but you get the point. some cars might allow you do select some different options. but there's not hard list.

hp tuners can be used to adjust tuning in some modules. like ecm, tcm and fuel pump module. but it will not flash the base gm software talked about above. it will only make changes to values in that software. things like timing, fueling needed to adjust for hp mods is what it's aimed at and some emissions stuff, but that's not talked about in the open. tcm changes shift points and pressures, fuel pump module it seems is mainly used when aftermarket high flow pumps are added for boosted cars. hp tuners can not tune or access anything in your bcm or ebcm. they specifically don't even add the auto brake bleeding function. they do have a few small diagnostic functions like you can tune fans on and off, things like that. scanner side could be called diagnostic, but it's more geared towards logging engine stuff to adjust fuel and timing for mods. not really going to run down a can bus fault with hpt

and then the btdieselworks.com which I don't know a ton about, but seems interesting. I believe they can actually access the bcm(body control module) and do the lights and different things. my guess is they can flash some changes the code. say gm sold a wrecker that they programed in running the strobs off the bcm and used the same part number bcm that year. they have been able to either turn on that hidden line of code, or maybe even patch it from that OS to your OS.

I also believe some version has to stay actively plugged into the odb2 port to work. so like say newer cars can roll the windows down from the key fob. they can make your old truck do it, but only by leaving it plugged it. it's looking for something on the can bus, like say 3 unlock button hits, will then it uses the bi directional scanner diagnostic test function for rolling down the windows, to request the bcm roll down all for windows for you. Effectively adding an option for dealer never did but in a complicated work around way.

anyways.. good luck. your truck basically needs none of this, shut off afm in the ecm, not by a plug in dongle in the ecm. replace the torque converter with a better one and adjust the tcm so it's not trying to lock and unlock the tc clutch for every gear change and you'll be fine.

Traction Control and Stabilitrack are generally good things. But in a circumstance you need to disable them both, simply press and hold the traction control button. Tapping it turns off traction control. Pressing and holding for 3ish seconds also turns off stabilitack.

When I was teaching my kids to drive, I'd take them to an unplowed parking lot and do donuts with the Suburban. Vehicle yaw can be very unsettling to new drivers. Their "final exam" was a controlled 360° (or more) spin using nothing but throttle modulation and counter-steering.

My dad never taught me how to make donuts in a parking lot, in snow or otherwise. Sometimes I wish I was adopted ...

^^^^^ Now, that's FUNNY!
No, it ISN'T, you guyz! ...

He did teach me how to parallel park when I turned 8, and he installed the basics in me so thoroughly,
that I managed to drive from the age of 18 to the age of 22 without ANY license, without arousing any suspicion from anyone, including him.
No donuts, or any of the fun stunt-type stuff though.

Man i used to grab what ever daughter (have 3)was sitting next to me and put them on my lap and tell them to drive when we were up in the woods.
When they could reach the pedals we would go out to the back 40 after a few beers (me) in the winter and let them do power slides, 360s, drifting in a beat to heck 4x4 Suburban.
Gawd it was so much fun!!!! Swear i can still hear them laughing. Good old days.

Are you from Finland? This is pretty much STILL what they do over there (from what I hear when I talk to Finns and get all jealous).
They pretty much start learning to drive as soon as they can see over the info cluster, in places like parking lots and stuff.

One day I had a revelation, though. Came out of a car wash after they shined up my tires. Next 3 right turns looked awesome, after which I got pulled over.
"You know why I stopped you, right?"
"'cause you wanna know how I make right turns look so cool without making any noise?"
"Yea, those skids were unusually quiet."
"Yea, did you see me come out of the car wash after they shined up my tires?"
"No."
"So, despite that we're both driving Caprice 9C1s, you've no idea how I came out of a car wash and made 3 schweet looking turns?
You officers ever taken any Emergency Vehicle Operations Courses? You officers ever shine the tires coming out of a car wash?"

They let me go after a few more min of idle conversation.
Went back to the car wash, bought a 5gal bucket of their offbrand tire shine for $50 plus a car wash membership,
and gave my nephew what my dad didn't: fishtailing lessons in July.

Please put something on your dash that clearly states the airbags have been removed. If we (firefighters) rock up on your crashed truck and the airbags should have gone off we're going to spend extra time making sure they don't suddenly change their mind. If we think the airbags should have deployed then it's fairly certain you're going to need more care quickly. Of course maybe you're going to save us all that extrication trouble and not wear your seatbelt too so you get thrown clear and we can just roll you onto a backboard.

that's an interesting take.. I could definitely see not expecting it to be to bad of the air bags didn't go off. I guess my question is how would you even display that? maybe just change to a non air bag steering wheel?

what's standard practice you're taught to disable bags that aren't set off? cut the battery cable? I feel like that's gotta be annoying for cars with the battery in the trunk depending on which option it gets vs the base model being under the hood.
