How do you guys hook up your ipod to your stereo? Im looking for an alternative method to my old tape deck ipod player. It bugs the hell out of me having this 6ft long wire dangling all over the place in my center console. I have an old Aiwa stereo and an aux cable that I used in my previous tahoe, however the display lights (multicolored, flashing, blinking etc.) are really annoying when the stereo is on. I want something that is clean looking. Should I looking into a new stereo and use my existing aux cable, or should I try a different type of transmitter? Don't they make stereo's now that are ipod oriented? Let me know what you guys are running.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm running an F700BT Nav unit from Pioneer. (It was recently replaced with the X-series of in-dash nav's.) Ipod interface built-in. Before that was a Pioneer single din that was controlling my iPod. Single reason I got an iPod in the first place was to avoid getting a CD Changer, best investment I ever made.

My advice would be to invest in a new HU that has iPod control built-in. One word of advice though - depending on what kind of model iPod you have, your choices may be limited. The Pioneer Nav units only work with 4th Gen Video and later (including Nano's, Touch's, etc.). Anything 3G or below will not work.

I have the PAC piece for my factory radio. uPAC-GMC2

It displays the name of the song on the screen, still use my steering wheel buttons, it charges my ipods/iphone. It also has a second and third input that have RCA jacks and a headphone jack. It also works flawlessy with HD as well.

I've got an iPod touch. Double din is an in-dash screen right? Im looking for something in the $250 range,

like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8448_Dual+XDVD8265.html
-Although it doesn't appear to have an iPod interface? Or Auxiliary input.

iPod interface on that unit is a cable that gives you a 3.5" input. It's shown in the pictures as their iPlug adapter. You won't control the iPod through that, you'll only have a direct audio connection.
It says it's got an RCA aux input in the rear, but something is telling me that iPlug uses those inputs.

So your HU allows you to use the iPod functions with the buttons/touchscreen on your HU?

And the one I posted will only allow me to use the iPod functions through my iPod right?

Do you prefer to be able to operate the ipod through the HU? Does it connect via wire? Or is it bluetooth or something along those lines.

I soon will have the iSimple/Peripheral PXAMG iPod Gateway. I had to send back the original interface and harness as the harness was bad and messed up the interface. For the few minutes it did work the one time, it worked well with the stock headunit. If you are using the stock Nav headunit on an 09, just becareful since only a few iPod interfaces work. The iPod Lockpick and Scoche iPod interfaces don't with 09's with the stock nav unit.

So I want a HU with an iPod interface so I can control the iPod with my HU. My budget is about $250. Would it even be possible to get a double din for that much? Or should I stick with a regular single din and run a set up similar to max's?

Yeah I kind of figured that, are all of the companies such as: Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion etc. about the same quality wise? Is there any brands that stand out as being far better?

I like the alpines personally, their imprint sound processor is sweet. You could find a head unit like mine for around $225 online and it comes with the ipod cable.
