Hey there, I'm replacing a wheel bearing after one of the axle nuts came loose (I did some suspension work awhile back and must have screwed up).

I bought a new nut this time, but there is no cotter pin slot on these. Am I supposed to do something else to secure the nut? As far as I recall the old ones just seemed to be tightened down like any other nut.

Thanks!

If it did not come with a cotter pin you may have gotten the wrong nut. Some vehicles have castle nuts and cotter pins, others do not. So I’d say first thing would be to make sure you have the correct nut.
If it is the correct nut, it will be a locknut (not specifically nylon, but a locknut of one form or another). Just make sure that it is tightened to the correct torque setting. Doesn’t hurt to check them after 100miles.
