HID install....some thoughts

Since this topic has been covered a lot I did not document my install. It was pretty straight forward. Here are some thoughts.

HID High beams. - not sure I would do this. I am not happy with the warm up period. I guess I have to do the 4 Hi mod or whatever it is to keep the lows and highs on at same time. Its either that or get a PIAA Superwhiste bulb to match(sort of)

DDM Kit - all very nice. Here is a nice little tech piece from their site for those of you wondering what the extra wires are in the kit. Glad I found it. I was a little stumped for a while.

Flicker - one of mine flickers on start up. It goes on and then 3-5 seconds into it...flashes.

All in all, I love the light output. I went with the 35W 5000K for both highs and lows. Gonna put PIAA Superwhites in my fogs to match...actually, nah, I am going to do HIDS as they are cheaper than PIAA bulbs. I am gonna go 35W 4500K.

The front will be finished off by Clear Bumper lights and perhaps some LEDS to match the color of my HIDS. I will post pics of the completed set up.

Just a thought for the high-beams:

I have OEM Matsushita ballasts in my lows and they fire up WAY faster then the DDM's do. It may be one of those cases where you get what you pay for there. I've never had an issue with the DDM equipment, they just seem slower to ignite and fully power up.

As I will be installing some hids soon, what should I do about the fact that I park in a garage? There will be cases where the lows will come on for only a few seconds and then turn off. This isn't good for the ballasts correct?

Yeah, I will keep and eye on them. I know DDM does a pretty good job of standing behind their products. It was late when I finished up last night so I will reevaluate. Its basically a 3-5 second warm up which I think is pretty standard. The flicker might bug me.

I am pissed off. I had clear bumpers 'delivered' per the tracking info from company. USPS driver says he put on my stoop. I have not seen in days. I live in a decent neighborhood and there is a large 'deterrent' parked consistently in my driveway. Doubt it was stolen but cannot figure out.

Reason I ask is because I've noticed my Raptors, while they work fine, are the slowest of the bunch to light up.

i ordered a set of hid's, not trying to thread jack but had a question. I want to get rid of my auto headlight's on my 03, i've tried all the "tricks" to get the lights to turn off and they dont. So i was wondering would it be a problem if i pulled the auto headlight fuse? So that they no longer turn on unless i tell them too? My spring loaded headlight switch does not allow me to turn off the headlights

But you dont have to have the auto lights on. Just switch them on and off no?

Dont worry about it mine have been in for over a year and half and I havent had any problems. Last year I was parked in the parking garage and they came on every time. Now my parking space is covered and they come on every time they will stay on long enough for them to warm up before they kick off. I love having auto lights so I am not worried about it. HIDs are supposed to last much longer than regular bulbs anyways so I dont see it being a problem.

Lol, i cant turn off the auto switch. The switch is spring loaded and i try and turn it to the off position and it does not stay there, and the lights just stay on

I know what you're talking about...lol.

You can't leave it in the "off" position; it won't let you. You can turn the lights off with the switch, but then it pops automatically back to "auto." Kind of an annoying feature, actually, as I'd like to be able to control when my headlights are on or off at start. If it's dark enough, they are coming on whether you like it or not, until you turn them off.

Isn't there something in the drivers program function on the steering wheel that can disable the Auto lights function?

no. but there is a buttom that says dome overide next to the headlight switch. hit is softly and it turns off the auto interior lights when you open the doors. press firmly and it will dissable the auto headlights. works on my truck atleast.

what year truck you got? cuz somebody told me to push the button a bunch of times and it will disable them and they dont. Mine is an 03
