I’m having an issue with my 2013 Tahoe Z71:
While I’m driving on cruise control on the highway it sort of hiccups and check engine light comes on and goes off and when that happens the cruise control is off, center lock closes and sometimes the fuel gauge drop to zero (empty), then when it hiccups again it goes back to normal!!
I have a short video for this issue but can’t find away to upload it! If anyone can explain how to upload the video it will be clear to see how the issue happens.
Plus when I’m stopped at traffic light for example the rpm jumps making the whole car jump forward! And sometime it just die and shot off!!
It’s been going for a while …anyone faced such an issue?!
Appreciate the feedback
TIA

To post a video here, people usually upload their video to YouTube and then post a link to it here.

Get code(s) pulled and post them here. Sounds like the dreaded grounds problems that are documented here in several threads, especially in salt on the roads states.

You really ought to put a scan tool on it to pull the internal BCM codes. First thought is a bad battery. Check your battery cables and grounds for corrosion for starters.

Did a scan and got the following code:
P2161 Vehicle Speed Sensor "B" Circuit Intermittent/Erratic/High

Does that mean the VSS needs replacing? If so can anyone share part no. And location? And is it something I can do myself (diy) or must take it to the dealer?
Thx

My first thought is that that code is related to your instruments cutting out, some kind of short. How old is the battery? What is its state of charge in the morning? The answer to the latter can really only be answered by a bi-directional scan tool.

A subscription to AllDataDIY will allow you to test and replace the VSS (on the transfer case) if it is faulty.

Battery is new just replaced few months back along with the battery cables .,

So the mentioned code doesn’t mean that the VSS is faulty?

Check the cables and all grounds that are located all over the damn place. By the way, no code ever says if you get that code to replace that part. It requires the diagnostic steps be followed and repair as needed. You may get lucky by replacing the part but that is never a guaranteed fix.

We've seen new batteries that are no good all the time on this here forum.

Not necessarily. It could be related to the cutting out, could be bad, could be the ECM. When you have time, read what I took the time to post for you.

I have a 2013 current, and 2005-and 1995 still in the family, I had a similar problem on both....One had a bad ground on the engine side...the other had a worn ignition switch (not the lock). I discovered by doing a jiggle test going down the road. My assumption is yo9u have already scanned for any other issue related to sensors?

You are right. The engine will still run off of the alternator if the battery or its cables are bad. And if the alternator is bad it will even run off of the battery for a while.

Thx all
Battery and cables have been replaced along with the alternator cable didn’t solve the issue…
Vehicle speed sensor checked and connector replaced (wasn’t in good shape)… didn’t solve the issue
All grounds checked and cleaned…

But from what I found researching that there are 2 VSS connected together (In/Out)… thinking of replacing it (not expensive)

As for the ignition switch, how can I check if it is working properly or not before going for replacement?

Thoughts?

And wouldn’t a faulty ignition switch or alternator throw a code?
