My buddy just got a 02 Denali. He wants to install a double din nav system but it looks like one will not fit. He is really picky about fit and finish. Does anyone know of a nice, clean way to install a in dash double din unit in this truck?

Yes but have to get the "basket" that holds the a/c and stuff with it. Also If the center counsel goes all the way up to the dash it will fit funny.

just take the time to cut it larger for it to fit. there is a bunch of stuff on the market that make the job not to hard to do. match the radius with filler and sand and repeat time and time again until he is happy.
Also the sticky at the top of this page has good info in it.

Yes. I just put an 06 Escalade dash in my 99 Sierra and had to do modifications because the inside of my dash is still the 99, just the outside is the 06.

You will need the double DIN bucket from an 03-06 and the bezel from an 03-06. The climate controls are a tad wider and the mount is different on his, so climate controls will have to be modified to fit, but it's not terrible.

You will have to cut the metal bracket in the dash behind the 1.5 din off to fit a double din..

I didn't move any of that, I just trimmed the top of the dash bezel and adjusted the stereo up

It could be trimmed more but I'll do that later

I appreciate the guys effort on the youtube video, but he would never be allowed within 20' of my truck.

He was definitely "sloppy" but in theory, his method seemed to make the most sense. Also there is a video of the finished product and it came out nice.

i used a dremel and used and trimmed my standard bezel rather than buying a 03+ bezel.
i used CA glue to glue the DD bezel to the dash bezel.
filled the gaps with Evercoat Maxim. sanded then painted..
i actually copied mine from another build... came out perfect.

That dash piece came out really nice. I'd like to fix mine to look like that.

I just did this using the bezel and radio cage from an 03-06. It wasn't too terrible. The metal bracket does not have to be cut, it really just depends on the radio you get. I used a Kenwood DDX470 and it fit fine. It was tight, but still fit.
