HELP!! Engine rebuild!!

I have a 2001 gmc yukon slt 4x4 with a 5.3 It has 171,000 miles on it. Im wanting to rebuild the engine to gain more horsepower and torque. I need help with what to purchase. Im looking at about 400 hp. Anybodies comments will be helpful.

Definitely do some trans work they are the weak point.

I would think about picking up a 6.0 and rebuilding it while you keep driving what you have. Less downtime and more displacement.

On a 6.0 400hp is pretty easy. My 2005 has 335 stock. 10-15hp from an intake, 15-20 from exhaust, and I'm guessing 40-50 from a tune (could be wrong).

Does that sound right? I've heard intakes are around 5% (just a general figure) which is around 17hp.

5-10 from intake and exhaust together. 10-15 from tune if you are lucky. tune doesnt add as much horsepower as it does making it useful.

edit im talking at the wheels. at the crank, 10-15 from intake and exhaust together and probably 10-15 from a tune.

At the wheels, for that year and engine, 25-30 from tune, 10-15 from CAI, exhaust is no more than the intake provides, they are not significant performance enhancers.
