Hello all, newb needs help

Hey all, new to the forum, and love it. So, forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask this question but still learning to navigate this forum. Anyway, we own an 05 Tahoe daily driver and over the last couple of days have experienced a very harsh raw fuel odor at the rear of the truck. I have been under it several times and can find no leak. I have no check engine light on and the truck seems to run fine but it is definitely harder to start in the morning or after a few hours sitting than it used to be. Sorry if this has been addressed before, I have searched the forum but must not have hit any key words in the search. Thanks fo any help i advance, the smell of raw gas and no clue of its source makes me a bit nervous.

Your vapor line for the tank might have a leak in it somewhere. But I think that would throw a code.

you probably have a problem in your evap system either the gas cap seal is bad
when you tighten the gas cap does it take some effort before it starts to click or does it start clicking with little effort if it starts clicking easy when you tighten it its probably just a faulty gas cap seal or either the vent valve solenoid is bad and its stuck close and the pressure started a small leak in your fuel tank somewhere if your only smelling fuel then its probably a small leak or there is a clog in the evap line witch goes from the fuel tank to teh evap valve solenoid to the charcoal filter (big square thing next to the fuel tank) to the purge valve solenoid on top the intake manifold you can replace the entire evap system minus the charcoal canister for like 80 bucks and gas caps are cheap
the vent valve solenoid is above the rear diff the purge valve is on top the intake manifold
and just because you dont have a Check engine light yet doesnt mean the evap system isnt the problem it can take a couple of weeks of daily driving before the drive cycle is done to ttest the evap emissions system and when it does throw a code itll be p0440 p0441 42 43 49 51 52 and more those are some of the evap codes and make sure the large charcoal canister is the last thing you replace is the least likly to be bad and they are supposed to last the life of the vehicle
