I am looking to change the look of my 2007 tahoe, basically the headlights. I was thinking of buying the projector headlights on ebay and fitting them with some HID has any one done this mod if so how did it come out and how is the lighting output or should I just stay with my present set up and save my money and time.

Retrofit all the way. If you are handy you can do it yourself. Person like me would just order them and fork out the dough because I'm not that handy.

I am about to do one.

I just bought a Morimoto 6.0 H1 kit from TheRetroFitSourcre.com on Thanksgiving.

And

OEM replacement headlights TYC from Amazon.

I plan to do a detailed thread after I finish.

You can make the oem lights as cool or as gay as you want. Options are truly endless.

Halos
Paint the reflectors
Paint the cutoff shield
Etc

The eBay ones have a horrible light pattern and look rice.

Go to black flame customs and see examples.

I am in $415.00 with everything

Definitely recommend retrofitting. My retrofits in new oem replica housings are being delivered tomorrow. Ended up getting a great special and paying about $200 more than above which included labor and I also added halos but not entirely sure if I want to run them or not. I too went with the Mini H1 6.0 at 5000k and 35w Morimoto ballasts with E46-extended shrouds. There are a lot of places out there that do quality work now. I'd recommend getting on hidplanet and reading around. I went with Vision Autoworks out of Atlanta.

Those are the guys that did mine. Although I found them through HID planet. You can also check them out on Facebook at rsxretrofits.com (now Vision Autoworks). The guy who started it used to work for TRS in Atlanta. They used I only do RSX's but over the last few years have changed and are doing any vehicles.

They've done several NNBS tahoe and each of them slightly different so there are lots of options.

I'll definitely post some as soon as I get them installed.

I like those Iris shrouds. Very OEM look. I was going with that look as well and that's why I'm not entirely sure about the angel eyes yet but we'll how it all looks with the LED switchbacks I've got installed now.

Thank you, you guys saved me time and money think I might just put in a good set of HID and maybe slightly tint the headlights.

I would highly advise against just putting HIDs in. Your output will actually be worse with the glare. These halogen headlights are designed specifically for halogen bulbs. HIDs aren't designed to use those reflectors in the headlights and cause a tremendous amount or glare to oncoming traffic. Although you see a bunch of people do this, it isn't the proper way.

IMO either do a projector retrofit or simply upgrade to a better halogen bulb.

Only my opinion though.

I agree but I really dont want to spend close to 1000 for a set of headlights and if I do it myself I am worried about aiming them correctly. What if I buy the aftermarket on ebay and install the morimoto HID into them.

Still won't work right because the projector in the eBay lights is the culprit. Not the hid bulb.

That is a great link and a good deal to boot......

$650 is NOT close to $1000....$999 is close to $1000 lol
Sometimes you gotta play to play. Doing a proper retro is the best way to go. Just save your $$ instead of wasting it on PnP kits and crappy aftermarket headlamps.....these guys know what they are talking about. Spending that kind of money is a hard to pill to swallow but definitely worth it in the end. I'm glad I did mine...best mod to date...Good luck with whatever you do.

Not to mention that this is a asset.

You could easily sell a used retro for half (at worst) if not more.

All seem like very reputable retrofiters. Go onto hidplanet and do some research. There are hundreds of photos and opinions on there for products, retrofiters, selling/trading, etc.

The guys over at theretrofitsource.com run it. If price is a worry you can always use PayPal and most everyone uses this as the payment method.

All the ones mentioned are great.

True that the retrofit source owns hidplanet.com

They bought it a few years ago

I just wish they had a tapatalk system

Yes I agree. I first saw the Iris shroud from member iCalvin truck. It is inspired from the VW Tiguan or whatever that thing is called.

Halos look good but for me I really only like them in Amber. I don't much care for factory halos either. Jmho
