A few weeks ago, I suddenly started having issues when filling the gas tank. I had to hold the handle just enough to let it barely trickle in or it would back up and click off the nozzle. I've been putting about five gallons in at a time because just that takes about fifteen minutes. We'll be taking the ol' 'Hoe to Florida for Thanksgiving and I can't be having hour-long fuel stops. I ordered a new EVAP canister ("charcoal canister"), vent valve and adapter harness (new vent valve has updated design with a different harness connector). Yesterday evening I dropped the tank and removed the purge solenoid from the intake manifold to test it and to check the pipe coming to it. Although I have a lift, dropping the tank was a PITA since the axle doesn't droop very far due to the lowering components. I called it 'quits' for the night after smashing and cutting my finger when the tank fell.

New canister is identical to original- same part number, etc.:

These carbon pellets are supposed to stay inside the canister:

...But, they made it from the canister that is located just in front of the spare tire alllll the way to the purge valve solenoid on the intake manifold:

Tank completely free from the truck:

I don't know why these areas are that ugly brownish color. Even though it'll never bee seen, I still decided to wire brush and paint it:

Much better:

I didn't take many other pics, but I just used various nozzles on my blow guns to blast each pipe from both ends. I ended up removing all the pipes and hoses from the tank and blasting them while shaking and tapping them on the concrete. Those pellets were EVERYWHERE and stuck in there pretty good. I had to blast them from both ways to work the clogs back and forth until they broke free and blew out. I even removed the fuel pump assembly to clean out the bucket and the tank itself.

After I got it back together, I took it to the nearest gas station, an Exxon, and put half a tank of 93 in it. For the first time in a while, I was able to lock the handle at WOT and step away:

Holy ******* shit look at those pellets!!!!! Great work there my man!!!!!

...Three more successful WOT fill-ups so far with another happening today. I'd say this solution is confirmed.

Lol
Thank you. I was blown away at how they were everywhere in the system and the distance they traveled in the pipes. They got all over my shop floor and were stepped on as I worked. It looks like some kids were in there drawing all over the concrete with pencils.

Drove it home from a week-long stay in Tampa, Florida yesterday. She got us there in relative comfort, all around Tampa and surrounding areas, then back home with a 900-lb golf cart in tow- 1,858 miles from my driveway and back with no serious issues. I'm proud about how effortlessly she towed the loaded trailer while still managing almost 17 MPG at 70 MPH. I say no "serious" issues since there was that time it sputtered on low fuel and the cheap Chinese exhaust cutout is rattling like mad now. It's acting like the gear drive is loose. Probably a broken weld or something.

Pertinent pics, just cuz-

The first morning after arriving at our hotel. The first stop for the day was to ditch the trailer at my grandparent's house. For that first night, I backed the trailer up the curb and pinned it against the tree. Goosed the throttle a little while in reverse, stomped the parking brake, then shifted to Park and shut 'er down. It's riding a little high in the back cuz I have 10 psi in the load bags. No, I'm not back on my iPhail5, this is a zoomed pic from our top floor window:

At a rest area on the way back yesterday. I wanted to add a little air to the bags to raise and firm up the rear a little. But, the flimsy trailer was bending the cross member that the rear of the tongue was attached to. I figured having the truck absorb some of the bouncing would help relieve it and keep it together longer. I'll replace that cross member with a stronger piece. I wanna keep the trailer as light as possible, but I also wanna ensure it'll safely carry it's rated capacity. This cart, at almost 900 lbs, is well under that capacity. I don't even know if I mentioned the cart here yet. But it's what the g-parent's "sold" me. It's a 2008 Yamaha "Drive" ("YDRE"), 48V. It's pretty loaded with horn, headlights, running lights, brake lights, signals, 4-way flashers... Has a 20 amp 48V-to-12V converter so it's already ready for a car stereo. I don't know what's been done to it for speed (motor and/or gearing), but it goes 25 MPH and stock is something like 14 MPH. They're in their 90s and haven't golfed in over a year. The registration sticker on the cart (for their community) is from 2019. I removed the full enclosure kit, windshield (tinted fold-down), mirror and sand buckets for the ride home:

IMG_4048.JPG

Cruising at 70 MPH on I-75 North, I averaged 16.7 MPG. The instant MPG was hitting 18 and 19 a lot, but it starts to get hilly towards the top of the state. I'll just call it 17 MPG:

IMG_4046.JPG

I never got a chance to install that 40K True Cool and was concerned about trans temps pulling that loaded trailer on the way back. The Tahoe pulled it with ease and the wind drag, if not non-existent, was far less than I was expecting. Trans temps hit ~182 at most, and that was when accelerating to merge back onto the Interstate after a fuel or food stop, which consisted of a few stops and starts itself. When cruising, it quickly cooled back down and stayed in the upper 150s-lower 160s:

Overall, I'm very pleased with her performance this past week. She's fun around town but has proven herself to still be a viable highway hauler.

Great post! She looks beautiful, and hauls well too. Stance looks perfect too! (Other than that rear height for the towing) [emoji6]

That thing sits and looks perfect! Well done. I'm jealous

Thanks, broskies!

I still haven't given up on integrating the ALC compressor. But, for now, I at least know that just 10 psi in those bags will raise it ~1/2" and firm it up enough to carry what is probably about the most I'd ever haul or tow. If I just so happen to carry more, well, I still have 25 psi of headroom.

Remember, this is on coils from a much lighter vehicle- a Jeep TJ. Maybe they're oversized in capacity for the Jeep and they ride really firm?

I am sitting here at 1 A.M. wide awake because I took an hour nap at 7 PM and now truly wide awake. I loved your postings, I only wish that I had that much talent but I live off of the projects you guys do. My 11' LTZ is basically factory since day one but she looks and rides like new. I have no intention of getting rid of her especially since I don't like the news ones just yet. I tend to keep my hoes somewhat of a long time, last one was a 2003 LT which I sold in 2011.

Goin through something, took a quick trip to Canada to blow off some steam:

It hasn't blown up yet!
Funny--When you were starting to get up there in speed, you were averaging 2 mpg, then when the speedo was almost pinned at around 110-120, you were averaging 4 mpg. So go faster for better mileage!

lol! Sounds like some sort of tricky advertising- "I've cracked the code on a simple one-step process to DOUBLE YOUR FUEL ECONOMY!" Literally, one step: Step on the pedal and let it eat! You'll go from 2 MPG to 4 MPG in seconds!

Thank you! Other than my asshattery, I strive for quality posts. After years of seeking knowledge and experiences from the postings of others, I'm happy to have my own experiences to share.
