I am in the process of purchasing an 04 tahoe with the 5.3L and i noticed today when looking at the add online that it says it has the tow package. Does that mean it has the 4.10 gearing or could it have others with the tow package?

That's a good question! I have the tow package as well. I was just in a thread too, where we were talking about this. One of the guys posted up everything you need to know. I don't remember the name of the thread though! Try the search feature. If you can find the thread, it has everything you need to know in it.

No lol, there aren't 4.10 ratio grears in it from the Factory. My 2001 has a Tow package and I it came with like 3.23's She has 4.10's now and man will she get up and go or pull a Boat or U-hual with ease. but the fuel Consumshion is Very Bad too. I belive there where two Gear Ratios that You could get from the Factory with the Tow Package.

waiting on ( The Hoe ) to Chime in or ( Jenn Bear )

4.10 was available from the factory. Look at your RPO sheet (in your glove box) to see what gear ration you actually have:

GT4 Rear axle, 3.73 ratio
GT5 Rear axle, 4.10 ratio
GU5 Rear axle, 3.23 ratio
GU6 Rear axle, 3.42 ratio

To add:

99-04 Tahoes and Yukons could be ordered with different gears depending on what drivetrain it had. 2WDs could get 3.23s (standard) or 3.73s (optional). The 4WDs could be ordered with 3.73s (standard) or 4.10s. I think, for a short run, you could get 3.42s in the 2WDs. The Suburbans and Yukon XLs got 3.73s standard, both 2WD and 4WD, with 4.10s being an option on both.

05-06s were a little different. Tahoe/Yukon 2WD still had 3.23 and 3.73, while the 4WDs changed to 3.42 standard with 4.10s being an option. Suburban/XL went to 3.42 standard on both 2WD and 4WD, with 4.10s being an option on both.

This is for the 1/2 tons. The 2500s always had 3.73s standard with 4.10s being optional.

Sorry to hijack, but Is this the sticker you are talking about? I'm sure my Z71 came with 3.73's, but just thought I would check....

G80 is a factory locker... And word on the street is it is prone to breaking... I have it as well. 3.73's and the g80 have been good to me so far.
