are cutting in and out. Also chime dosent work when this happens. I assume that is where the chime is played, through the speakers. It appears that i do not have a Bose or amped system. Are these speakers known to fail or might i be dealing with something more than just speakers?

Could be the speakers or a pinched wire somewhere. My Tahoe had a pinched wire for the rear door speakers that caused similar issues.
Also, like you suspect, the chime is played through the drivers side front speaker.

got my speakers replaced. One in the rear stopped working completly and fronts were cutting in and out. Upgraded to some alpine type-s Installer said that its common for Gm speakers to fail. Glad it was just this and nothing more
