So how is this dash cracking issue not a manufactor recall to he fixed yet? My 2011 tahoe got its crack after me owning it for just two short years (last summer it happened) also had a buddy with a '14 Tahoe with 30k miles and his cracked as well
My crack is of course on the part of the dash that would be the biggest attached part that goes around the whole width of the inside

It is not safety related. It is cosmetic, and by all means a poor design. That engineer probably graduated at the bottom of his class.

I'm new to the forum, but my dash has been cracked for at least 5 or 6 years and only getting worse. I have a cheap ebay dash cover on it. I was surprised how bad it has gotten when I pulled on the dash cover yesterday. A large section in the middle is broken on both sides and just floating in place.20170330_180918.jpg 20170330_180927.jpg 20170330_180938.jpg

Wow!! You know i wonder are 99% of all the cracked dashes black? Maybe black retains the heat better? Just a assumption but this is not a cheap fix and although not a "saftey issue" it is a EXPENSIVE cosmetic issue on a vehicle i spent 30k on!!

I got a dark cashmere and it has been repaired by previous owner but showing a few more around the airbag. If mine gets as bad as Texan's, I'll buy a new one and glaze the underside with fiberglass and resin.

ok so i just got off the phone with chevy "headquarters" and after a half a dozen questions and waiting on the phone for an additonal 5-10 mins i found that the "BUMPER TO BUMPER" warranty DOES cover this issue and mine is expired because i have 84,000 miles but i guess if anyone still has lower miles this would be covered
1 (800) 950-2438 Is the # i called so good luck to anyone else who may call

So is there any issue with clearance if you re-enforce the back side of the new dashboard with fiberglass before installing?

I wouldn't think as long as you keep it to one or two layers of cloth with resin. The areas around the mounting tabs should be a good reference on how thick you can go.

Compare the areas that crack on your old dash and you will see where you would need to beef it up. From what I have seen most people have cracks in the same areas. I would probably go 3 layers in those areas.

I gotcha. Adding strength to the same areas that cracked seems like a wise idea.

You know it's ridiculous that we are talking about adding fiberglass layers to a brand new dashboard because the likely hood it will crack again is pretty high.

GM should be flipping ashamed. Morons.

Fellow Tahoe/Yukon owners:
My 2011 Yukon dash cracked in similar fashion as many have described. Literally, out of the blue it is there.
I have an extremely reliable and honest Chevrolet dealer who services my Denali. When asked about this weird dash fracture, they allowed it was a known product problem. No further discussion and I understand this. However, GM and the dealer did allow a $300 credit on an otherwise $600+ replacement charge. In a couple of days, the new dash was perfectly installed and I am down the road again.
Given my Denali was five years old and way out of any warranty, I feel both GM and this very ethical Chevrolet dealer offered a very fair proposal.
Bottom line: Talk to your GM dealer if you utilize one and you may be surprised.

I have talked to two dealers here in Raleigh and both had 0 interest in working with me on replacing the cracked dashboard at a discounted price.

Dealer 1 Estimate: $1050
Dealer 2 Estimate: $950

Sad to learn this. Raleigh is a long way from Acworth, GA so most likely it isn't worth your time and effort. However, I'll ask my service manager if he would discuss the situation with you.
