My front axle is leaking on the driver side on my 03 4x4tahoe and when 4x is on you can hear it kind of like when a hub goes bad. anyway how involved is it to take apart and repair?

You should be able to find some tear down videos on you tube. It's not that hard to remove and re-install the axle with proper tools and equipment. In most cases, it's easier to source a replacement unit and just swap them, albeit not necessarily cheaper.

You can get a new half shaft from rockauto.com for $45 plus shipping, I wouldn't bother with a bone yard.

Are you talking about a cv axle? Bc I really couldn't find it. Its leaking right were the axle comes out and the cv bolts to it.

Yeah, Rockauto classifies it as a "CV Half Shaft Assembly" -- You are best navigating the site yourself to make sure the right vehicle is selected, but it looks like either CARDONE SELECT Part # 661009 ($45) or EMPI Part # 801503 ($69) should work for your Tahoe. Here is a link to the EMPI part on amazon;

If it's just leaking, it could just be a bad seal or boot, if you don't want replace the whole half shaft, but you had mentioned it was making noise.
