As some of you know, I've just got a new 2002 Z71 project going. This thing has zero rust and I'm just ecstatic about it. Needs bodywork but I'm not worried about that.

I've pulled all the carpet to give a really good deep cleaning and I found that the rubber/foam heat shield under the carpet turned into peanut brittle and broke into 20,000 pieces. You can see the foam stayed behind though. Any suggestions on how I would handle this? Should I find an exact replacement or just use some generic roll and stick firewall shield? Ignore it and just put the carpet back in? My other Tahoe and Yukon didn't have this issue at all.

Post the last 8 digits of your VIN and hopefully @915_Tahoe will chime in with a part number(s) for maybe still available replacements. Good luck.

I just called and talked to a seller of a 2005 Z71 real close to my American Legion post neighborhood. I am going to look at it after work. He is asking $8500 for it but he is a Vietnam vet and so am I so he said there will be an automatic price reduction for that. It has 133,900 miles on it. I posted links of KBB value and the ad itself in the 2000-2006 "General Discussion" section.

First off, thank you for your service Ron! People like you have kept our country great. :)

Sounds like, with only 133k, that's good even if it's $8500. I hope he'll bring it down a few thousand for ya though. Post some pictures if you snag it.

That would be helpful if @915_Tahoe could tell me what I need. :) My VIN is: 190791

I was planning on hopefully getting it for $8k or less but I think I could offer $7500 cash and he will take it. I will drive it to see how it all handles and performs.

@mijohnst, I looked at Amazon and at RA and none of these part numbers pop up. Looks like either direct from GM or aftermarket creative work ahead.
