Fan-like Sound Above Your Head

Just started. (2005 XL) A fan-like sound from above the drivers' head!
Aha...this makes sense...from another thread. However...it's description says it's only on when the blower is on and mine is on as soon as ignition is ON..?!?!?!?

if the key is on the sensor is on, it might go off if the hvac is turned off, maybe
it has a small electric fan inside that blows air across a thermistor to monitor the ambient cabin temperature
the electric fan eventually begins making noise, which is what you hear when it starts to go bad, it may be constant or intermittent
most commonly it is mistakenly identified as a microphone (or speaker) because of the grill and because the later models that have bose anc (active noise control) do have a mic that is almost identical looking right next to it.
The real mic (onstar or bluetooth) is actually located in or next to the roof center console, older ones have a mic on the side (black), later models have a mic inside the console left corner (not visible except tiny grill slot).
